Job description

Sandhill Telephone Cooperative is a thriving, technologically advanced telecommunications provider serving residential and business members with an array of services that include local phone, VOIP, high-speed broadband, streaming services, and home automation/security systems. We are looking for a Network Core Engineer who will be responsible for assisting with the evaluation, engineering, and design of Sandhill’s voice, data, transport, and special access circuit networks. This position requires an extensive knowledge of telecommunication networks to be successful., * Develop an optimize core network architecture to support scalability, performance, and future growth

  • Analyze traffic patterns and capacity needs to plan efficient routing and resource allocation
  • Integrate new technologies into the core network
  • Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, gateways, and core network elements
  • Deploy new services and upgrades while maintaining network stability
  • Continuously monitor core network health using specialized tools
  • Identify bottlenecks, tune parameters, and improve throughput, latency, and quality of service
  • Detect and resolve critical network faults quickly to minimize downtime
  • Protect core network assets from cyber threats and ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Work with cross-functional teams, vendors, and other engineers to align core network capabilities with service requirements
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Cisco routers and switches preferred
  • Familiarity with MPLS, Segment Routing, ISIS, BGP, and EVPN
  • Skill in problem identification and resolution
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Must possess excellent technical communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to effectively articulate complex situations to colleagues with varying degrees of network knowledge.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments
  • Ability to work irregular hours as needed, * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Networking, or other closely related disciplines preferred
  • Experience: 5+ years supporting complex telecommunications networks is preferred
  • Preferred Skills: CCNA/CCNP certifications; familiarity with MPLS, Segment Routing, ISIS, BGP, and EVPN

Must be willing to work in an in-office environment at our Jefferson, SC location, and/or a surrounding office. Remote work can be completed on a limited basis. Position requires field work and hands-on maintenance in central offices within our territory. An insurable driving record, preliminary drug screening, and background check are required.
