Job description

  • Creates maps using GIS software.
  • Conducts mapping research, in the field and in the office, to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of the data.
  • Maintains and updates databases using GIS software.
  • Trains others on the use of new and existing applications.
  • Performs spatial analysis.
  • Develops and maintains links between various databases.
  • Distributes assignments and reviews the completed work of staff.
  • Develops new, user friendly GIS applications.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity., * Read and use zoning maps, quarter-section maps, plat maps, land use maps, single line maps, aerial maps, blueprints, and engineering plans.
  • Enter data into a computer terminal, PC, keyboard, or mobile device requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement.
  • Present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, City employees, boards and commissions, and the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings in group settings, through electronic communications, or using a telephone.
  • Develop working knowledge of industry-specific terminology and symbology, such as water and wastewater or planning and zoning.
  • Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, layouts, or other visual aids.
  • Analyze complex legal descriptions, resolving any conflicts, and produce accurate graphic representations.
  • Read and interpret legal descriptions.
  • Perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Perceive color such as working with computer displays and multi-colored data layers and features.

Requirements

  • GIS software.
  • Digitizing and data editing procedures for GIS data.
  • Geography, cartographic design and geographic methods.
  • GEO database and relational database design.
  • Symbols and terminology used in civil, architectural, or electronic engineering drawings.
  • Computer systems design and programming.
  • Symbols and terminology used in civil, architectural, or electronic engineering drawings.
  • Computer systems design and programming.

Ability to:

  • Work cooperatively with City employees and the public.
  • Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time., * Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field, or two years at a technical or vocational school and two years of experience working with geographic information systems. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
