The position will be responsible for the cartographic design, data manipulation, data analysis, data management, and data creation from digitization or field surveys. Additional tasking may involve testing, integration, implementation, and technical support of GIS platforms. The chosen candidate will also provide recommendations toward the development of new data structures and applications. The GIS Technician will often review datasets for quality assurance. Attention will be primarily focused on supporting utility industry enterprise GIS services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the consistency of data in enterprise geodatabases and GIS data conversion

  • Coordinate updates of features and attributes in enterprise geodatabases

  • Use editing techniques to develop, manipulate, and edit vector and raster data sets

  • Revise maps and map products using GIS cartographic concepts, principles, and processes

  • Create and modify geographic data from a variety of sources, such as Internet repositories, paper documents and hand drawn maps, Microsoft Excel files, text files, database tables, Google Earth files, CAD files, etc.

  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job under immediate supervision

  • Regular interaction with Actalent GIS staff, Designers, and Engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or another related field desired

  • Associate Degree with equivalent experience will be considered

  • Exposure to Esri applications, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Portal for ArcGIS (or ArcGIS Online), Collector for ArcGIS, and Survey 123 for ArcGIS

  • Exposure to Esri application programing interfaces (API), including ArcPy, Arcade, and JavaScript for ArcGIS

Requisite Abilities and Skills

  • Working knowledge of GIS concepts, including editing environments, mapping projections, data conversion, map production, cartographic design principals, and digitizing

  • Ability to translate or convert data between GIS file types, such as importing KML files into geodatabases or exporting ArcGIS layers to other formats

  • Ability to perform research to find and download GIS data from outside sources

  • Understanding and ability to prepare metadata

  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating system

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in supplying information and seek assistance as necessary

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative

This is a Permanent position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00/hr.
