Job description

Zephyr Wind Services is seeking a Director of Information Technology to lead and mature the company’s IT strategy, systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor relationships, networking environment, and technology operations., This role is responsible for ensuring Zephyr’s technology environment is secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with the needs of a growing, multi location wind services organization. The Director of IT will oversee internal systems, Microsoft 365 administration, cybersecurity practices, business applications, IT service providers, network infrastructure, firewall administration, infrastructure planning, and technology process improvement.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands on, with the ability to lead technology initiatives while also understanding the practical day to day needs of employees, field teams, operations, finance, HR, and leadership.

Essential Functions of the Job

Lead the overall IT strategy for Zephyr Wind Services, including infrastructure, networking, applications, cybersecurity, end user support, device management, and systems governance.

Manage and improve the company’s Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Entra ID, security groups, permissions, compliance, and related administrative functions.

Oversee cybersecurity policies, tools, and controls, including endpoint protection, identity security, MFA, email security, patching, firewall configuration, network security, access reviews, and vendor security practices.

Manage and support Fortinet FortiGate firewall and networking environments, including firewall policies, VPN access, site to site connectivity, routing, security profiles, firmware coordination, and vendor supported configuration changes.

Oversee network infrastructure across company locations, including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, internet circuits, VLANs, VPNs, and related monitoring, documentation, and support processes.

Manage relationships with external IT vendors, managed service providers, telecom providers, software vendors, and technology partners to ensure accountability, timely support, and measurable service quality.

Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, standards, documentation, and internal controls for access management, onboarding, offboarding, hardware lifecycle, software licensing, incident response, firewall and network change management, and data governance.

Partner with leadership, operations, finance, HR, and other departments to identify technology needs, improve business workflows, and support scalable growth.

Oversee technology systems that support business operations, including ERP, file storage, collaboration platforms, field tools, reporting systems, network services, and other business applications.

Lead IT projects from planning through implementation, including system migrations, process improvements, software rollouts, infrastructure upgrades, firewall and network upgrades, security initiatives, and vendor transitions.

Evaluate current systems and recommend improvements that reduce risk, increase efficiency, improve visibility, improve network reliability, and support better decision making across the organization.

Ensure company technology assets, accounts, licenses, network devices, firewall configurations, and access permissions are properly tracked, maintained, reviewed, and retired when no longer needed.

Support the development of reporting, dashboards, and data processes that improve operational visibility and business performance.

Provide guidance and support to employees and leaders on technology best practices, security awareness, and appropriate use of company systems.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, OneDrive, Entra ID, permissions, groups, and security controls.

Expert level knowledge of Fortinet FortiGate firewalls and network security functions, including firewall policies, VPN configuration, routing, firmware management, security profiles, and site to site connectivity.

Expert knowledge of business networking concepts, including LAN/WAN, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, switching, wireless networking, internet circuits, and network troubleshooting.

Expert knowledge of cybersecurity principles, identity and access management, endpoint protection, MFA, email security, patch management, firewall security, network segmentation, and incident response.

Ability to manage external IT vendors and hold service providers accountable to defined expectations, timelines, and deliverables.

Strong understanding of IT operations in a growing, multi location business environment.

Ability to translate business needs into practical technology solutions.

Strong project management, documentation, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to evaluate workflows, identify gaps, and implement repeatable processes.

Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, department managers, technical vendors, and non-technical employees.

Strong judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive company, employee, financial, and operational information.

Ability to balance strategic planning with hands on execution.

Experience with ERP systems, business applications, data reporting, and operational systems is preferred.

Experience supporting field service, manufacturing, energy, construction, or industrial service environments is preferred., Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered as well.

Minimum of 7 years of progressive IT experience preferred.

Prior experience in an IT leadership, IT management, systems administration, cybersecurity, networking, or technology operations role preferred.

Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments required.

Experience supporting Fortinet FortiGate firewall and networking environments preferred.

Experience with network infrastructure, firewall administration, VPNs, wireless networking, telecom circuits, and multi site connectivity preferred.

Experience managing MSPs, vendors, software providers, telecom providers, or outsourced IT support partners preferred.

Experience developing IT policies, procedures, documentation, access controls, network standards, and technology standards preferred.

Experience supporting distributed teams, multiple business locations, or remote employees preferred.

Experience with ERP systems, SharePoint based workflows, reporting tools, and business process improvement preferred.

Physical Demand

This position is primarily performed in a remote office environment.

Must be able to communicate clearly by phone, video conference, email, and other digital platforms.

Occasional travel may be required to company locations, vendor meetings, or project sites.

Travel may include walking through office, shop, warehouse, or field service environments.

Must be able to occasionally lift or move standard IT equipment such as laptops, monitors, docking stations, network equipment, firewalls, switches, wireless access points, or related hardware.
