Director of Coalitions & Networks

Primary Report: For Richmond Executive Director, For Richmond exists to unite the Church for the flourishing and transformation of Metro Richmond. We do that by connecting and catalyzing Christian leaders in all sectors to collaborate around the deep needs of our region.

The Director of Coalitions & Networks (DCN) is primarily responsible for the creation and management of issue-specific coalitions and the support of affinity networks. Examples of current coalitions that are formed or in development including Child & Family Welfare, Quality Education, Immigrant & Refugee Support, and Affordable Housing. For Richmond is a “network of networks” that connects Christian leaders in all sectors to existing networks while catalyzing new ones as need arises. This includes networks of clergy, nonprofit leaders, industry specific groups, etc.

Given For Richmond’s mission, it is imperative that the DCN have a deep love of God, the diverse Church, and the Metro Richmond area including the City of Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover. It is also crucial that the DCN has experience in successfully facilitating cross sector collaboration amongst high-level leaders in a variety of spheres - preferably including the faith, nonprofit, government, and business communities. Lastly, the DCN is someone who is a humble leader with knowledge of asset-based community development practices, a life-long learner, and passionate about connecting people to their calling to work with others for the common good.

The DCN performs a wide range of duties to connect and catalyze Christian leaders to collaborate, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

Coalition Building:

• Quarterly Coalition Meetings: Coordinate and facilitate quarterly coalition meetings for each issue area, serving as a support and coach to volunteer coalition leaders
• Annual Review Meetings: Assess the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities that exist for each coalition each summer to provide guidance to volunteer leaders
• Research & Networking: DCN will regularly engage in both research and networking to ensure that they have a current knowledge of issues as well as a working knowledge of those who are working on those issues and how
• Content Creation: In partnership with coalition members, the DCN will create written content specific to each issue for use in meetings and events, as well as online so that it is readily available to all; ability to translate complex ideas and information into more accessible forms is a must
• New Coalitions: From the overflow of new and existing relationships and connections, help to support the creation of new coalitions; recognizing and developing new leaders for these groups along the way in partnership with the ED

Network Support:

• Biannual Network Leader Meetings: Convene Network Leaders twice a year for connection, peer learning, equipping, and encouragement
• Maintain Network List for Website: Regularly update FR’s website with our list of vetted network partners to make it easy for leaders to connect directly to the Networks
• Connect Leaders: As the DCN represents FR at meetings and events, the DCN utilizes their working knowledge of the network to connect individuals to the appropriate networks and coalitions

Events:

• Annual Summit: Assist the ED in selecting content and speakers for plenaries and breakouts at FR’s new winter summit as well as assist with event logistics
• Annual Prayer Breakfast: Primary responsibility for coordinating this annual spring event that brings together participants from all the coalitions and networks
• Annual Pastors Gathering: Primary responsibility for working with a committee of pastors to develop an annual summer gathering for clergy; ED will assist during the first year

Communications & Measurement:

• Coalition & Network Playbooks: In partnership with the ED, the DCN will develop playbooks to guide current and future coalitions and networks, providing a framework and best practices for both staff and volunteers
• Stories: Identify and record stories of flourishing and transformation for use in all communication, provide photos from all meetings and events
• Measurement: Work with the ED to establish metrics and the means to track both outcomes and impacts, as well as work with volunteers to ensure their participation
• Technology: Use of Canva, Squarespace, Mailchimp & Social Media for Communications
• List Management: Work with the ED to maintain lists in Kindful, Google, Excel, etc.

Knowledge: Bachelor’s Degree is required. Must have knowledge of and commitment to missional ministry through the local church. A strong commitment to Christ and a passion for city flourishing and transformation through the demonstration and proclamation of the gospel is essential.

Experience: Previous experience in working with the faith, nonprofit, government, and business sectors is preferred. Must have the ability to organize and lead groups of diverse, high-level leaders. Attention to detail and mental concentration are necessary for performing tasks, meeting deadlines and reacting to changing situations.

Skills: Must have strong written and verbal skills to effectively communicate, inspire and motivate others. Must have excellent project management and multi-tasking skills. Must be able to develop and maintain multiple relational networks in the community. Must be outgoing, relational, and a self-starter, with ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Personal Characteristics: Candidate should be of strong moral character and demonstrate a commitment to behave ethically and with integrity in order to build relational trust and unity.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: This is a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Physical fitness, vision, hearing, and speech is essential to effectively communicate the purpose and vision of the ministry. Must have a valid driver’s license as meetings take place all around Metro Richmond. Must be able lift at least 25 pounds as some meeting setup is required. Must be willing to work one to two evenings a month and one to two weekend days per year.
