In order to make the WeAreDevelopers Magazine more diverse and to cover topics outside of our own expertise, we decided to open it to guest posts. To this end, we are looking for contributors to write articles with us and benefit from the reach weāve accumulated over the years.
What we are looking for
If you are an aspiring writer and have something interesting to show, weād love to hear from you! We are looking for various content pieces:
- Case studies: āHow we used technology X to create Y and what we found works bestā
- Thought pieces: āWhy Technology X is Yā
- Tips and Tricks: āUsing X to create Yā
- Best Practices: āX is considered harmful - hereās whyā
- Experiments: āDoom in CSS? Why not?ā
- Showcases: ā10 mind blowing demos showing Yā
- Crash and burn stories: āHow we failed to do X and what it meantā
Topics can include anything developer related, and what we covered at the congress and in our other publications. If there are soft-skills topics that apply, we can also talk about them.
We are looking for short and snappy articles that donāt need more than 5 minutes to read. It turned out that deep-dives are great in the long run, but easily overwhelm people and arenāt read that much. If you have a larger topic to cover, weāre also open to having a series of posts.
The WeAreDevelopers Magazine uses a bespoke CMS and needs the content in Markdown format and all the images provided as a zip file. You can also use online writing tools, but make sure we can get the images and videos as they are sometimes hard to extract.
What we are not looking for
This should not be a place to directly advertise services and products. Your insights and knowledge should get people interested and they will come to you for more information. We are not looking for sponsored content in the format of āProduct X solves all your Y problemsā - this is a magazine by developers for developers. So letās talk about the meat and the details - warts and all.
We are also not looking for AI generated content - this is a place to make your own voice heard - not a perfect SEO optimised, boring essay.
Whatās in it for you?
WeAreDevelopers is a well known and respected brand and we share that reach and connections with you.
- Your content will be featured on the magazine and promoted on social media and in the DevDigest newsletter.
- You will be featured as the main author with photo, links and contact possibilities.
- Authors are automatically getting a ticket for the WeAreDeveloper World Congress
Additionally, we help with editing and give advice on how to write. The main content editor of the magazine is Chris Heilmann, former editor of the Yahoo Developer Blog, the Mozilla Developer Blog, the Microsoft Edge blog, author of several books and contributor to Smashing Magazine, Sitepoint, Skillshare and LinkedIn Trainer.
Authors might also be invited to be part of the WeAreDevelopers Live Show and the Coffee with Developers Podcast.
