Requirements

Nicholas Howard are delighted to be recruiting for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a highly innovative and successful defence business. Are you an experienced Embedded Software Engineer who enjoys developing software close to the hardware? Do you have a strong background in bare-metal embedded development and want to work on products where your code has a direct impact on real-world performance?

We’re looking for a talented engineer to join our clients Product Design team, developing innovative embedded systems from concept through to production. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where bare-metal programming is a core part of the role, giving you the chance to work directly with microprocessors, peripherals and real-time control systems.

Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you’ll be involved throughout the full product development lifecycle, designing and developing embedded software for advanced control and sensing applications. You’ll also create Windows-based applications to support testing, configuration and product development.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with commercial experience in embedded software development who is comfortable working at a low level and has a genuine passion for bare-metal programming. You’ll enjoy solving complex technical challenges, debugging hardware and writing efficient, reliable code for resource-constrained systems.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Strong commercial experience developing bare-metal embedded software in C.
  • A solid understanding of microprocessor-based embedded systems.
  • Experience debugging hardware at component level.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience developing Windows applications using Microsoft Visual Studio (C# experience is advantageous).
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • A degree in Computing, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Experience with platforms such as the Zynq-7000 SoC, Texas Instruments MSP430 or Renesas RX Series processors would be beneficial, although not essential.

Knowledge of Linux, digital control systems or video technologies would also be advantageous.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on innovative products in a collaborative environment where engineering quality and technical excellence are genuinely valued. You’ll be encouraged to contribute ideas, take ownership of your work and develop your skills while working alongside experienced engineers on challenging projects.

If you’re looking for a role where bare-metal embedded software development is at the heart of what you do, and you enjoy seeing your work become part of real-world products, we’d love to hear from you.
