Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Application Support Specialist to join our dynamic IT team. This role involves providing expert support for a wide range of enterprise applications and infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of system architecture, cloud platforms, and networking protocols, contributing to the seamless operation of our organisation’s technology environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a collaborative team focused on innovative solutions and continuous improvement., * Provide technical support for enterprise applications, including Pegasystems, Java-based solutions, and microservices architectures.

  • Manage and maintain cloud environments such as AWS and Azure, ensuring system availability and security.
  • Administer virtualisation platforms including VMware and ESXi, supporting system deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and optimise system performance through load balancing, DNS management, and network configuration.
  • Develop and implement system design improvements using scripting languages like Bash (Unix shell), Shell Scripting, Python, and T-SQL.
  • Maintain system security by configuring firewalls, VPNs, DHCP settings, and implementing information security best practices.
  • Collaborate with development teams on SDLC processes, solution architecture, APIs integration, and DevOps practices using tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Conduct regular system administration tasks across operating systems including Windows Server, Linux distributions, UNIX environments, and database management systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network issues related to computer networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP; ensure proper firewall configurations.
  • Document system configurations and support procedures; participate in ongoing training to stay current with emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting enterprise-level applications within a service-oriented architecture environment.
  • Strong background in cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure along with virtualization technologies like VMware and ESXi.
  • Hands-on experience with system administration across Windows, Linux/UNIX operating systems; familiarity with operating systems’ internals is essential.
  • Knowledge of databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle; experience with SQL/T-SQL scripting is required.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Kubernetes), microservices architecture, load balancing techniques, RESTful APIs integration.
  • Experience working within the SDLC framework; understanding of solution architecture principles is advantageous.
  • Skills in scripting languages (Bash shell scripting, Python) for automation purposes.
  • Understanding of information security protocols including firewalls, VPNs; ability to implement security measures effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills combined with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
