Job description

The Sr. SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for NICHD’s growing Microsoft SQL Server environment - currently 21 Windows SQL Server VM servers on-prem and in Azure - supporting SharePoint and other COTS applications in clustered and standalone configurations, with Transparent Data Encryption protecting all environments including public-facing data., * Administer SQL Server databases in standalone and clustered architecture, on Windows, on-prem and in cloud environments.

  • Perform backup/recovery, configure failover clustering, and set up and monitor scheduled jobs.
  • Write and tune T-SQL; perform performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Support SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Analysis Services (SSAS) as needed.
  • Upgrade databases to current Microsoft Service Pack/version levels to maintain security posture and vendor support.
  • Coordinate database-related release support with application and infrastructure teams (e.g., COTS-to-database connectivity, vulnerability remediation).
  • Maintain accounts, roles, and privileges; support daily database health checks across the environment.
  • Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for installation, configuration, upgrade, and troubleshooting, per the HHS EPLC framework.

Requirements

  • More than 5 years of experience conducting SQL Server database administration.
  • Extensive experience administering SQL Server databases in standalone and clustered architecture on Windows, on-prem and in cloud environments.
  • Extensive experience with SQL Server backup/recovery, failover cluster configuration, and job scheduling/monitoring.
  • Strong T-SQL, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services, Integration Services, and Analysis Services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 and MySQL on Ubuntu.
