Job description
- This is a senior enterprise architecture and modernization role focused on leading large-scale mainframe-to-Google Cloud Platform (GCP) migrations.
- The architect acts as both a strategic advisor to senior client stakeholders and a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, building, migrating, testing, and optimizing modernized cloud solutions
- Lead enterprise mainframe modernization programs and define target-state cloud architectures.
- Design scalable, resilient, and secure hybrid/cloud-native platforms integrating mainframe systems with GCP services.
- Drive application modernization for technologies such as z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, and VSAM.
- Architect dual-run/parallel testing solutions to validate migrated workloads, ensuring data consistency, transaction parity, and smooth cutover/rollback.
- Design event-driven integration using APIs, messaging, and streaming technologies.
- Build hybrid connectivity between legacy mainframes and cloud-native applications.
- Implement DevOps, CI/CD, automation, monitoring, and platform engineering best practices.
- Design data pipelines using Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and GKE for validation, analytics, and telemetry.
- Define GCP landing zones, security architectures, IAM models, networking, governance, HA/DR, and compliance frameworks.
Requirements
- 12+ years in enterprise application/platform architecture.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe modernization or legacy transformation programs.
- Proven experience leading large-scale mainframe-to-cloud migration initiatives.

Deep expertise in: Mainframe technologies (z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL), CICS, IMS, batch processing DB2 and VSAM
- Enterprise integration and cloud migration strategies
- Strong knowledge of GCP architecture, security, automation, and modernization patterns.
- Experienced architect who combines mainframe expertise, cloud architecture knowledge, modernization strategy, and hands-on migration execution skills to successfully transform legacy enterprise systems into scalable GCP-based solutions.
Benefits & conditions
The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $88,544 - $207,401.
Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.
The actual compensation offered to any candidate may fall outside of the posted range and will be determined based on multiple factors legally permitted in the applicable jurisdiction.

It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the posted compensation range.
In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
