Job description

Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside (BGCC) is a deeply valued and trusted partner to families and institutions on the San Mateo County Coastside. BGCC envisions a Coastside where every young person is strong, engaged, valued and able to reach their full potential. Because when our young people thrive, so do we all. We have grown substantially in the last five years and are looking to expand our development team to ensure our future. We raise funds from four significant sources: program fees, grants, events, and individual gifts. We are seeking a relationship-focused Development Manager to help expand our individual and major gift fundraising program.

The Development Manager partners closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development Committee and BGCC’s staff to plan and execute resource development strategies to generate fundraising income specifically focused on increasing the number and size of gifts from individuals to BGCC. The Development Manager will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting gifts from individuals and corporations. Success in this role is built on cultivating meaningful relationships and representing BGCC throughout the Coastside community., * Partner with our Executive Director to implement resource development strategies related to individual and corporate donors.

  • Expand and strengthen BGCC’s pipeline of major and mid-major gift prospects.
  • Working with Boys & Girls Clubs of America resources complete wealth screening on the current BGCC donor database and selected local non-donors.
  • Create an updated prospect list based on wealth screening and current donor visits.
  • Meet with individuals on our evolving prospect list.
  • Partner with our Executive Director and Board Development Committee to finalize cultivation cycle activities for BGCC.
  • Take the lead on execution of all activities related to key individual donors.
  • Engage Board to accompany you on solicitation visits.
  • Make 5 meaningful contacts each week.
  • Ensure all contacts are updated in our shared donor database - Bloomerang.
  • Develop and supervise donor recognition and stewardship strategies and events.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on additional development initiatives as mutually agreed upon., * As an independent contractor we expect this team member to provide their own work space and tools including computer, phone, and internet. BGCC uses both Google Workplace and Microsoft Office platforms and so must the Development Manager.
  • Regular in-person meetings with donors, community partners, and BGCC staff are an essential part of this role.
  • Development Manager will be paid monthly, for hours worked, upon receipt of invoice, for up to 50 hours/month.
  • Reasonable and pre-approved costs for donor meetings and meals will be reimbursed.
  • Compensation: $50-75 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Work hours are flexible and based on mutually agreed-upon priorities.

This position requires regular in-person work in our office in Half Moon Bay.

The ideal candidate is familiar with the local community and surrounding area.

Requirements

  • One to three plus years of resource development experience in areas of donor relations, gift solicitations, and/or campaign management.
  • Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar not-for-profit organization with an emphasis on fundraising, marketing, management, or community relations.
  • Ability to raise money and meet financial targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and manage budgets and forecasts.
  • Commitment to the vision and mission of supporting those who need us most.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Existing relationships within, or demonstrated familiarity with, the San Mateo Coast/Half Moon Bay community are highly valued.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of database operations and spreadsheet software. Competence in Google Workplace and document sharing.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to attend in-person donor meetings and community events throughout San Mateo County.
