Job description

Northwest Partners is looking for a Security Analytics Engineer to join our client, a leading enterprise organization. In this role, you will proactively identify, investigate, and analyze suspicious or malicious activity across a large-scale technology environment. Working with security, engineering, and data teams, you will leverage security analytics, threat hunting techniques, and large-scale telemetry to uncover emerging threats, improve detection capabilities, and strengthen the organization’s overall security posture. This is a 6-month contract requiring onsite work five days per week in Chicago, IL. What You Will Do Proactively conduct threat hunting activities across security, identity, endpoint, network, cloud, and application telemetry. Investigate suspicious behaviors, anomalies, and emerging threats to identify potential security risks and control gaps. Analyze large-scale security datasets, logs, and behavioral data using SQL, Python, and other analytical tools. Develop and validate threat hunting hypotheses based on threat intelligence, attack trends, and security observations. Identify new detection opportunities and partner with security teams to improve monitoring, alerting, and detection capabilities. Build dashboards, reports, and metrics that communicate security posture, threat activity, and detection effectiveness. Collaborate with Detection Engineering, Incident Response, Product Security, Fraud, and Engineering teams to operationalize hunt findings. Recommend improvements to logging, telemetry, instrumentation, and security controls to enhance visibility and response. Requirements

Experience in Threat Hunting, Security Analytics, Detection Engineering, Incident Response, or a related cybersecurity discipline. Strong experience analyzing security telemetry, authentication logs, application logs, endpoint data, cloud logs, or network events. Hands-on experience using SQL and Python to analyze large-scale datasets. Experience working with SIEM platforms and security monitoring tools. Strong understanding of attacker techniques, credential attacks, account compromise, malware, phishing, bot activity, and other common cyber threats. Experience developing or improving security detections, alerts, dashboards, or analytics. Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate ambiguous security questions into actionable findings. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams. U.S. Citizenship is required.
