Job description
The Plant Technician I performs entry-level installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications plant and customer services under supervision. This role supports reliable voice and data services through fiber or fixed-wireless installation, troubleshooting, and plant maintenance while following safety standards and developing technical skills through training and hands-on experience.
Plant Installation, Maintenance & Safety
- Install, service, and maintain voice and data services, including Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) or fixed-wireless.
Troubleshooting & Field Support
- Assist with troubleshooting broadband network and customer service issues under the guidance of supervisors or senior technicians.
- Identify potential plant issues and report findings to supervisors.
- Support repairs, upgrades, and maintenance activities as assigned.
Equipment, Vehicles & Documentation
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and job-related devices.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
- Accurately complete work orders, service records, and required documentation on a daily basis.
Customer Service, On-Call & Development
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers during installations, repairs, and service calls.
- Protect confidential customer and organizational information.
- Participate in on-call rotations, flexible scheduling, and overtime as required.
- Assist with facility maintenance, groundskeeping, and other plant-related duties as assigned.
- Install, replace, and maintain: Fiber: cable, fiber, Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), power supplies, and related plant equipment.
- Assist with locating, repairing, replacing, and maintaining telecommunications plant facilities and infrastructure.
- Follow all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and company procedures while performing field work.
- Operate tools, vehicles, and equipment safely and in accordance with training.
Requirements
·High school diploma or equivalent required ·Previous experience in an broadband, electrical, IT or mechanical field ·Previous experience with troubleshooting and repairing cable or fiber-based systems is preferred ·Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required ·Experience working with a Windows computer is required
