The UX/UI Designer performs advanced, professional work requiring independent judgment in shaping user experience strategy, translating complex requirements into elegant interfaces, and ensuring that digital products meet both user needs and federal mission outcomes. Experience designing modern digital services, cloud-hosted applications, and AI-enabled interfaces is strongly preferred to support an innovation-forward modernization initiative. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as assigned)

  • Lead UX research activities including user interviews, journey mapping, persona development, and usability testing to inform design decisions.
  • Develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs that align with federal requirements, accessibility standards (including Section 508), and program objectives.
  • Serve as a key UX/UI Designer for the federal engagement, maintaining effective working relationships with product owners, developers, technical leads, and government stakeholders.
  • Translate user stories, functional requirements, and technical constraints into intuitive, user-centered design solutions.
  • Create and maintain design systems, component libraries, and style guides to ensure consistency across applications and delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs and provide guidance throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Conduct usability testing, analyze results, and iterate designs based on user feedback and stakeholder input.
  • Ensure UI designs support security, compliance, and federal ATO/IATO requirements where applicable.
  • Design interfaces for cloud-hosted systems, including Azure and Azure Government environments.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Provide UX/UI metrics, research findings, and design recommendations to leadership and government stakeholders.
  • Support release readiness, change management, dependency management, and issue resolution activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of UX processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design roles supporting enterprise or federal systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing user-centered interfaces for complex, multi-team applications.
  • Hands-on experience with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
  • Experience conducting UX research, usability testing, and synthesizing findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Experience designing solutions hosted in Azure, AWS, or comparable cloud environments.
  • Experience supporting federal civilian agencies or regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery environments running Sprint cadence.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and communicate design concepts clearly.

Desired Skills

  • Experience designing AI-enabled, machine learning, or data-driven interfaces.
  • Experience targeting designs to a Drupal solution.
  • Familiarity with Azure Government or comparable federal cloud environments.
  • Experience with Section 508 compliance, WCAG standards, and accessibility testing.
  • Relevant certifications such as UXQB, HFI, NN/g UX Certification, or comparable credentials.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, graphic design, information technology, or a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a regulated federal environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass background screening prior to employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or U.S. work authorization with a minimum of three years of U.S. presence, as required for federal contracts.
