Job description

Job Title: The UX Designer will lead the user experience planning and design activities supporting the consolidation of multiple public-facing websites into a unified digital experience for a Federal Agency. Working closely with business stakeholders, content owners, developers, business analysts, testers, and project leadership, this individual will assess existing websites, identify opportunities for consolidation, and develop a practical roadmap for improving navigation, content organization, accessibility, and overall usability.

The UX Designer will balance business objectives, user needs, accessibility requirements, and technical constraints to recommend an improved user experience while supporting the implementation team throughout the project lifecycle.

This individual will play a key role in planning the future-state user experience and guiding the modernization effort from concept through implementation. (Government Contract supporting the Social Security Administration), The UX Designer will lead the user experience planning and design activities supporting the consolidation of multiple public-facing websites into a unified digital experience for a Federal Agency. Working closely with business stakeholders, content owners, developers, business analysts, testers, and project leadership, this individual will assess existing websites, identify opportunities for consolidation, and develop a practical roadmap for improving navigation, content organization, accessibility, and overall usability., The UX Designer will balance business objectives, user needs, accessibility requirements, and technical constraints to recommend an improved user experience while supporting the implementation team throughout the project lifecycle. This individual will play a key role in planning the future-state user experience and guiding the modernization effort from concept through implementation.

  • Lead UX planning activities for the consolidation of multiple public-facing websites into a unified user experience.
  • Evaluate existing websites and recommend improvements to navigation, content organization, information architecture, and user workflows.
  • Facilitate planning and design workshops with business stakeholders to understand priorities and translate them into user-centered design recommendations.
  • Develop website consolidation strategies, user personas, user journeys, site maps, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and page layouts.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify content, eliminate duplication, and improve the overall digital experience.
  • Collaborate with developers, content authors, and testers to ensure proposed designs are technically feasible and effectively implemented.
  • Support Section 508 accessibility compliance, WCAG standards, and responsive design best practices.
  • Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and user acceptance activities.
  • Utilize website analytics, user feedback, and usability reviews to continuously refine the user experience.
  • Develop UX standards and reusable design patterns that promote consistency across websites and digital services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Architecture, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of four years of experience designing public-facing websites or digital applications.
  • Experience planning or leading website redesign, migration, or consolidation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, navigation design, usability principles, and responsive web design.
  • Experience creating user journeys, site maps, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and page layouts using Figma, Adobe XD, or similar UX design tools.
  • Experience collaborating with business stakeholders to define UX priorities and translate requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Experience working with Drupal or another enterprise Content Management System.
  • Working knowledge of Bootstrap and responsive web design principles.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility and WCAG compliance.
  • Experience working within Agile Scrum or Kanban development teams.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Must undergo criminal history and fingerprint check
  • Must submit to and successfully pass a DoD-initiated Tier 2 (Low-Risk) Suitability Investigation. This can take 2-3 months to complete, before you can start.
  • Quiet home office set up, with reliable fast internet is Required.
  • Equipment is provided for this government contract., * Experience supporting Federal Government or other large public-sector digital modernization projects.
  • Experience with content strategy, digital content organization, and information architecture.
  • Familiarity with website analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting website modernization, digital transformation, or citizen-facing service improvements.
  • Basic understanding of AI-enabled search, chatbots, or other digital self-service technologies.
