Job description

So are we. Join Compare the Market and help to make financial decision making a breeze for millions.

At Compare the Market, we’re a purpose-driven business powered by tech and AI. We’re building high-performing, results-driven teams with the skills, mindset, and ambition to deliver outcomes at pace. Every role here plays a part in driving our mission forward, and we create an environment where you can bring your authentic self, grow a truly characterful career, and see the direct impact of your work on the lives of our customers.

We’ve carved a meerkat-shaped niche and we’re looking for ambitious, curious thinkers who thrive in a fast-moving, high-impact environment. If you love accountability, embrace challenge, and want to make a real difference, you’ll fit right in.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and performance of our products by developing scalable test automation and quality engineering solutions. Working alongside Software Engineers, Product Managers and the Senior Engineering team, you’ll help embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle, enabling teams to deliver secure, resilient and high-quality software at pace.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and reusable test solutions across our products and platforms.
  • Build automated API, integration, end-to-end and non-functional tests to ensure the quality, reliability and performance of our applications.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests as part of our CI/CD pipelines, providing rapid feedback and supporting continuous delivery.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers and Architects to define quality strategies and embed testing early within the development lifecycle.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including test automation, shift-left testing and quality by design.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tooling that improves engineering efficiency, test automation and developer experience.
  • Support root cause analysis of defects and work collaboratively to identify preventative solutions that improve product quality.
  • Participate in code reviews, test strategy discussions and continuous improvement activities to maintain high engineering and quality standards.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging tools, technologies and approaches that enhance quality engineering practices across the organisation.

Requirements

You’ll have commercial experience developing automated testing solutions or software within modern engineering environments (ideally with native app experience) and enjoy solving technical problems through engineering. You’ll already have demonstrable experience in many of the following areas:

  • Developing automated test frameworks for API, UI and integration testing
  • Proven ability with Test automation frameworks. Experience with a native app testing framework like espresso or XCTest (or appium / maestro) would really make you stand out for this role.
  • API testing using tools and frameworks such as REST Assured, Postman or similar.
  • CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated testing into deployment workflows.
  • Version control systems such as Git.
  • Cloud platforms and modern software delivery practices.
  • Working within Agile development teams.
  • Performance, resilience or security testing (desirable).

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who’s curious, collaborative and passionate about quality. You’ll enjoy working closely with engineering teams, influencing best practices and continuously developing your skills while helping to improve the quality and reliability of our products.

Why Compare the Market?

We’re a business built for pace and performance. Here, you’ll be encouraged to think differently, act boldly, and deliver brilliantly in a culture that values results and rewards progress.

We believe diverse teams make better decisions, and we’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels empowered to grow, contribute, and thrive.

If you’re ready to stretch yourself, raise the bar, and grow with a team that’s serious about performance, innovation and purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
