Job description

In this role, you will act as the technical backbone of our interoperability strategy. You will leverage your Epic Bridges Certification alongside deep development expertise in InterSystems IRIS for Health (or Health Connect) to create seamless, high-availability, bidirectional data pipelines. The ideal candidate lives and breathes data standards like HL7 v2, FHIR, and API connectivity, ensuring that patient data flows securely, accurately, and in real time., * Interface Development & Configuration

  • Epic Bridges Build: Configure, maintain, and optimize Epic Bridges interface daemons, communication results, and background processors.
  • InterSystems IRIS Orchestration: Design and develop custom productions in InterSystems IRIS, including Business Services, Business Processes, and Business Operations to manage complex routing logic.
  • Data Transformation: Write clean, efficient Data Transformation Language (DTL) mappings and ObjectScript logic within IRIS to bridge syntax gaps between differing health IT systems.
  • Standards-Based Delivery: Build and maintain high-volume data streams using HL7 v2 messaging patterns (ADT, ORU, ORM, SIU, MDM, DFT) as well as modern FHIR R4 resources and web service APIs (REST/SOAP).
  • Production Operations: Actively monitor interface queues, message logs, and automated alerting systems within both Epic and IRIS to detect data bottlenecks or communication failures.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide tier-3 diagnostic support for data routing failures, connection drops, and translation errors. Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive fixes.
  • Performance Tuning: Audit message processing speeds and optimize IRIS database performance or Epic background job settings to manage high-volume peaks without latency.
  • Technical Scoping: Partner with clinical analysts, application teams (e.g., Beaker, Willow, Cupid), and external vendors to gather interface requirements and generate technical specifications.
  • Change Management: Follow rigorous ITIL change control practices. Manage environment code promotions (Dev -> Test -> Production) utilizing version control systems like Git and automated CI/CD workflows where applicable.

Requirements

  • Epic Bridges Certification (Active/Current certification or valid self-study status required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare IT, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Epic Bridges: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience managing and configuring interfaces within the Epic Bridges module.
  • InterSystems Platform: 2+ years of experience building, deploying, and supporting productions inside InterSystems IRIS for Health, Health Connect, or Ensemble.
  • Healthcare Interoperability: Proficient knowledge of HL7 v2 structure, segment mapping, triggers, and ACK/NACK workflows. Understanding of FHIR framework and SMART on FHIR application architecture.
  • Network & Security: Strong grasp of standard connectivity protocols including MLLP/TCP, SFTP, TLS/SSL certificate implementation, and OAuth2 authentication.
