Job description

Coordinates, monitors, administers, and supports enterprise network and data center environments to ensure high availability, security, and performance. Responsible for implementing infrastructure solutions, performing hardware installations, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing operational support for network and server environments.

Basic Purpose

Provide onsite technical support for data center infrastructure and equipment to ensure continuous system availability. Perform troubleshooting, escalations, and incident resolution while working with internal support teams and vendors to maintain optimal system performance. Exercise sound judgment, work independently, and follow established operational procedures and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform network installation and maintenance, including rack and stack, cabling, hardware installation, and parts replacement.
  • Install and maintain server hardware, including hard drives, memory, CPUs, RAID batteries, and network interface cards.
  • Support data center staging, deployment, logistics, and asset management activities.
  • Participate in site builds, technology refreshes, and infrastructure deployments while maintaining quality standards.
  • Perform hardware break/fix, moves, additions, changes, and component replacement.
  • Install, terminate, label, and test fiber and copper cabling according to industry standards.
  • Perform Cat6 cable termination and certification.
  • Create, update, and maintain rack elevations using DCIM applications (such as Nlyte or similar).
  • Maintain inventory records and documentation for infrastructure equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate infrastructure incidents and problems.
  • Coordinate with internal technical teams and third-party vendors to resolve outages and performance issues.
  • Provide status updates on active incidents and completed work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on network and data center equipment.
  • Support out-of-band management and KVM systems.
  • Manage Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and monitor power utilization.
  • Work with NEMA and IEC power connectors.
  • Support data center containment systems and airflow management.
  • Develop and maintain technical procedures and site documentation.
  • Follow established data center safety standards.
  • Lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting enterprise data center or IT operations environments.
  • Knowledge of software and hardware tools used in data center operations.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking concepts, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience with routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a 24x7 operational environment with participation in on-call rotations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with structured copper and fiber cabling, including installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with optical and electrical transceivers, including SFP+, QSFP+, GLCT, DAC, CFP2, and DWDM.
  • Knowledge of server hardware and infrastructure components.
  • Understanding of electrical standards, connector types, AC/DC power, single-phase and three-phase power systems, and power budgeting.
  • Knowledge of data center airflow, cooling, and heat dissipation best practices.
  • Strong cable management and documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience presenting technical recommendations and infrastructure solutions.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software interactions across enterprise systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience with DCIM platforms such as Nlyte.
