Job description

  • Work as part of a highly collaborative cross-functional team that includes product managers, machine learning scientists, data scientists, and senior engineers to deliver integrated search and recommendation capabilities.
  • Design, build, and maintain platforms and services that enable real-time, ML-powered ranking and recommendation decisions to improve customer experience and drive business impact.
  • Write clean, scalable, efficient, and well-tested code in Java and/or Python, adhering to high team standards and designing systems with future extensibility and maintainability in mind.
  • Work hands-on with a modern technology stack on Google Cloud Platform, including Java, Python, Spring Boot, Spark, Kafka, Kubernetes, GraphQL, and Vertex AI, to build and operate large-scale distributed systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical design reviews, providing and incorporating feedback to continuously raise the bar on code quality and system design.
  • Contribute to the reliability, observability, and operational excellence of search and recommendation services, helping ensure they are performant, resilient, and available for customers at scale.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in full-time software development.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (Java preferred), with the ability to write production-quality, maintainable code.
  • A solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency services within a distributed systems environment.
  • Practical experience using Java and the Spring Boot framework to build microservices or backend services.

Machine Learning and Infrastructure Experience (Preferred)

  • Experience deploying and maintaining AI/ML models or algorithms in a production, user-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud technologies (GCP is a plus), containerization (for example, Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with databases (for example, SQL, NoSQL) and stream-processing technologies (for example, Kafka).
  • Experience working with production systems, including monitoring, alerting, and participating in an on-call rotation.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Devin to increase development speed and quality.

Benefits & conditions

This is a hybrid role based in our Mountain View, CA office. Candidates must be able to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday, with Mondays and Fridays remote.

The above base pay range may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. The range listed is just one component of Wayfair’s total compensation package for employees. Depending on the position offered, equity, bonuses, commissions and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a comprehensive suite of medical, financial and additional benefits.
