Job description
- Resolve escalated issues from Tier 1 technicians with minimal supervision.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting across hardware, operating systems, and network environments.
- Manage and maintain client IT infrastructures, including servers, workstations, network equipment, firewalls, switches, and virtual environments.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux systems.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.
- Configure and troubleshoot network switches and related networking equipment.
- Implement patching, system updates, and security measures to maintain system integrity.
- Assist with cloud services, backups, and infrastructure improvements.
- Perform onsite technical work independently, diagnosing and resolving issues without requiring step-by-step guidance.
- Participate in infrastructure and project work including structured cabling, network hardware installation, rack installations, and equipment deployment.
- Maintain clear documentation of environments, configurations, and service activity.
- Provide professional communication and technical guidance to clients.
Requirements
DefinIT Solutions is seeking a high-performing Tier 2 IT Technician with the technical ability and confidence approaching Tier 3-level expertise. This role is designed for technicians who can independently resolve complex technical issues, manage onsite work, and operate effectively in a fast-paced MSP environment.
This is NOT an entry-level or helpdesk-only role. The position involves advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure support, field deployments, and direct client interaction.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
- Able to move quickly between multiple technical issues and projects
- Highly detail-oriented
- Capable of handling onsite issues independently without constant supervision
- Confident working directly with clients and making technical decisions
This role also involves hands-on field work, including ladder use, rooftop access, equipment installs, and physical infrastructure projects., * Proven real-world Tier 2 experience in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex IT and network issues
- Strong understanding of Windows and Linux systems, networking protocols, firewalls, and IT infrastructure
- Proficient in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues independently
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware and Hyper-V)
- Experience configuring or troubleshooting network switches
- Experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure environments
- Familiarity with IT security practices, tools, and monitoring systems
- Ability to work onsite independently and resolve infrastructure problems
- Experience handling escalated issues from Tier 1 technicians
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to work at heights and access rooftops safely
- Ability to install equipment in racks and ceilings
- Ability to move and mount hardware
Candidates must be physically capable and comfortable performing these tasks safely.
Additional Information:
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Azure Administrator, or similar certifications are a plus but not required if the candidate has strong real-world experience., * LAN/WAN troubleshooting: 2 years (Required)
