Lead Network Infrastructure Technician

Meridian WireWorks is seeking an experienced Lead Network Infrastructure Technician to support commercial network infrastructure deployments throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, and occasional regional or nationwide projects.

This role is focused on network equipment deployment, wireless access point installation, rack-and-stack work, MDF/IDF environments, cabling for access points and network equipment, cable terminations, documentation, and customer-facing field execution.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on field experience, can work independently, can lead small teams on-site, and is comfortable mentoring junior technicians while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.

Primary ResponsibilitiesNetwork Infrastructure Deployment

• Install, replace, and troubleshoot wireless access points
• Install network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, UPS systems, gateways, and related equipment
• Perform rack-and-stack work in MDF/IDF environments
• Support network hardware refreshes, technology rollouts, and equipment replacements
• Assist with network cutovers and field troubleshooting
• Maintain clean cable management, labeling, and equipment organization

Cabling and Connectivity

• Install cabling required to support wireless access points and network equipment
• Terminate and test Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cabling
• Dress, label, and organize patch cables, patch panels, and network equipment
• Assist with fiber patching and basic fiber infrastructure work
• Troubleshoot cabling, connectivity, and hardware issues

Field Execution

• Lead day-to-day work on assigned job sites
• Coordinate with customers, site contacts, and project stakeholders
• Maintain accurate photos, documentation, and closeout reports
• Identify field issues, material needs, and project risks
• Ensure work is performed safely, professionally, and according to project requirements
• Follow customer/project portal requirements when applicable

Team Development

• Mentor junior technicians
• Support on-the-job training and skill development
• Help establish field standards and best practices
• Promote safety, quality, and reliable execution

• 5+ years of experience in network infrastructure, low voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, commercial technology deployment, or related field work
• 1+ year of experience serving as a lead technician, site lead, crew lead, trainer, or primary on-site point of contact
• Experience installing wireless access points and commercial network equipment
• Experience with rack-and-stack activities and MDF/IDF environments
• Experience terminating and testing copper network cabling
• Ability to read floor plans, site documentation, and basic infrastructure drawings
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work from ladders or lifts
• Ability to travel throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring junior technicians, helpers, or early-career field staff
• Experience supporting multi-site deployments or technology rollouts
• Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, Juniper, or similar platforms
• Experience working in commercial, retail, healthcare, education, industrial, or data center environments
• Fiber optic installation, testing, or troubleshooting experience
• BICSI certification
• Fluke testing experience
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Willingness to travel for regional and nationwide deployments as opportunities arise
