Lead Oracle DBA Architect

Buchanan Technologies is seeking a Lead Oracle Database Architect / Lead Oracle DBA to join our growing Professional Services team. This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of enterprise architecture, Oracle database administration, consulting, and team leadership. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients while leading the design, optimization, modernization, and operational excellence of complex Oracle database environments. This position requires exceptional technical depth, the ability to communicate effectively with both executives and technical teams, and experience leading technical professionals through large-scale initiatives. What You’ll Do Oracle Architecture & Strategy

• Design enterprise Oracle database architectures supporting mission-critical applications.
• Develop long-term database and technology roadmaps aligned with business and technology objectives.
• Lead database modernization, consolidation, migration, and cloud transformation initiatives.
• Evaluate current environments and recommend scalable, secure, and highly available solutions.
• Provide architectural leadership for new application development and enterprise integrations.

Database Administration & Performance

• Lead Oracle database administration across development, QA, staging, and production environments.
• Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery strategies.
• Perform advanced database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and tuning.
• Optimize SQL execution plans, indexing strategies, memory utilization, storage, and system performance.
• Ensure database security, auditing, compliance, and operational best practices.
• Monitor database health, capacity planning, and future growth requirements.

Design, Development & Production Support

• Partner with application development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Review database designs, schemas, stored procedures, and data models.
• Support database deployments, release management, and production implementations.
• Lead production incident resolution and root cause analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement of database standards, automation, and operational processes.

Client Consulting

• Act as the primary technical advisor for enterprise Oracle engagements.
• Lead client workshops, discovery sessions, and architecture reviews.
• Present technical recommendations to executives, business stakeholders, and IT leadership.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Build trusted client relationships through exceptional technical leadership and communication.

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead and mentor Oracle DBAs, database engineers, and technical consultants.
• Provide technical oversight across multiple concurrent projects.
• Establish database standards, governance, and operational procedures.
• Support resource planning, project estimation, and technical delivery.
• Foster collaboration between infrastructure, development, security, cloud, and business teams., You are a technical leader who enjoys solving complex database challenges while helping clients achieve business outcomes. • 10+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience in enterprise environments.
• 5+ years leading Oracle database teams or technical delivery teams.
• Strong experience designing and architecting enterprise Oracle solutions.
• Expert knowledge of Oracle Database (11g/12c/19c/21c or newer).
• Deep expertise in:
• Database performance tuning
• SQL optimization
• Execution plans
• Oracle RAC
• Data Guard
• RMAN
• ASM
• Partitioning
• Backup and recovery
• Experience supporting large-scale production environments with high availability requirements.
• Strong understanding of database lifecycle management across development, testing, and production.
• Experience working directly with clients in consulting or professional services environments.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) experience.
• Experience with Oracle Exadata.
• Experience with GoldenGate or replication technologies.
• Knowledge of Azure or AWS cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and automation.
• Experience supporting ERP platforms such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Fusion, JD Edwards, or PeopleSoft.
• Oracle certifications (OCP, OCM, or OCI certifications) are considered an asset.
