Job description
R. H. Foster is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Routing Specialist to support the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of petroleum products. This position uses computerized routing and dispatching systems to forecast demand, build daily delivery routes, coordinate resources, and help ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
What You’ll Do
- Forecast daily and weekly delivery demand using weather conditions, degree-day accumulation, historical information, and operational direction.
- Build efficient delivery routes by mapping, sequencing, and prioritizing customer deliveries.
- Review customer account information to ensure delivery and forecasting details are complete and accurate.
- Coordinate the assignment of drivers and trucks based on forecasted delivery volume and operational needs.
- Review K-factor changes and adjust customer delivery schedules based on seasonality and usage patterns.
- Review delivery dispatch logs and update customer accounts to improve forecasting accuracy.
- Monitor K-factor exception reports, run-out warning reports, next-day deliveries, and other operational reports, taking appropriate action when needed.
- Respond to and coordinate after-hours service and delivery requests.
- Communicate regularly with dispatchers regarding daily and weekly delivery plans, operational priorities, and delivery concerns.
- Assist with reviewing delivery issues, including run-outs, near misses, small deliveries, and zero fills.
- Monitor key performance measures, including delivery efficiency, throughput, safety, and customer service.
- Identify opportunities to improve routing processes, reduce delivery defects, and support annual operational goals.
- Collaborate with drivers, dispatchers, customer service representatives, and other departments to resolve delivery concerns.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in routing, dispatching, logistics, transportation, fuel delivery, customer service, or a related field is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Computer Skills
The successful candidate should be comfortable learning and using computerized routing and dispatching systems. Experience with database software, contact management systems, inventory systems, spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, and other business applications is preferred.
