Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for musicians and professional transcribers experienced in melodic dictation, ear training, rhythmic analysis, music notation, and MIDI preparation. This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on converting lead vocal melodies from AI-generated music into accurate MIDI data. Selected professionals will transcribe pitch, rhythm, note timing, and duration by ear, prepare clean monophonic notation using MuseScore, and deliver technically accurate MIDI files that reflect the original vocal performance., Lead Vocal Melody Transcription

  • Transcribe lead vocal melodies note by note from recorded music
  • Identify accurate pitch, rhythm, note duration, phrasing, rests, and melodic articulation
  • Distinguish the primary vocal line from harmonies, backing vocals, instrumentation, and production effects
  • Resolve ambiguous notes and timing variations using careful repeated listening
  • Maintain musical accuracy across different genres, vocal styles, and recording qualities

Music Notation & MIDI Preparation

  • Create clean, single-line monophonic transcriptions using MuseScore
  • Enter notes accurately using notation or piano-roll workflows
  • Align note start times and durations with the source audio
  • Export complete and properly structured MIDI files using native software tools
  • Review notation and MIDI output for pitch, timing, and formatting consistency

Quality Review & Calibration

  • Compare completed transcriptions against the original audio and correct discrepancies
  • Follow project-specific standards for timing precision, note separation, and melodic interpretation
  • Complete a short sample transcription to support calibration before project staffing
  • Apply feedback consistently across future assignments
  • Document uncertain passages or interpretation decisions clearly when required

Requirements

  • Strong ear-training and music-transcription ability
  • Experience identifying pitch, rhythm, meter, and note duration by ear
  • A background as a composer, session musician, arranger, performer, music educator, or professional transcriber
  • Confidence working with vocal melodies across different genres and performance styles
  • Familiarity with music notation and MIDI-based workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete repetitive precision-focused tasks
  • Reliable availability for flexible part-time project work
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment

Educational Background

  • Formal training in music performance, composition, arranging, music theory, production, or a related discipline is helpful
  • Conservatory study, university-level music education, or equivalent professional experience is highly relevant
  • Practical transcription expertise may be considered alongside or in place of formal academic qualifications
  • Advanced ear-training, sight-singing, dictation, or musicianship coursework may be especially valuable

Nice to Have

  • Professional experience preparing scores, lead sheets, arrangements, or MIDI files
  • Familiarity with MuseScore, piano-roll editing, or comparable notation software
  • Experience transcribing vocals, instrumental solos, melodies, or musical performances
  • Strong understanding of rhythm, syncopation, tuplets, ornamentation, and expressive timing
  • Experience working with digital audio workstations or music-production software
  • Ability to distinguish subtle pitch movement, slides, vibrato, and note transitions
  • Previous involvement in music annotation, audio evaluation, or structured quality-review workflows

Benefits & conditions

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply advanced listening and transcription skills to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality generative music and melody-to-MIDI workflows
  • Work on assignments aligned with ear training, music notation, and technical transcription strengths
  • Use professional musical judgment to capture nuanced vocal performances accurately
  • Participate in flexible assignments with competitive hourly compensation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
  • Part-time workload depending on project availability
  • Competitive rates between $75-$105 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • A short sample transcription may be required before project staffing
  • A background check and confidentiality agreement may be required
  • Initial assignments focus on single-line lead vocal transcription, with potential expansion into broader transcription work
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
