Job description

As a Controls Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of control systems for grid-scale battery energy storage projects. You will work with senior engineers to implement robust and secure software solutions, participate in code reviews, and help ensure high-quality deliverables. This role provides opportunities to learn, grow, and make an impact within a collaborative team environment., * Develop and implementing real-time control services (dispatch, balancing, state machines) in C/C++.

  • Support integration of devices and protocols (Modbus, MQTT) under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit/integration testing, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and contribute to team goals.
  • Write and maintain tests for software modules.
  • Support development controls by integrating battery and power conversion systems from industry-leading manufacturers.
  • Focus on robustness, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability with support from senior team members.
  • Assist in optimizing latency, throughput, and reliability for Linux/embedded targets.
  • Help deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Track, manage, and report work using JIRA and Confluence.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Unit testing?, Do you have a Master’s degree?, * Experience with C/C++ on Linux/embedded/RTOS; solid understanding of systems fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with the Agile development framework.
  • Basic knowledge of real-time controls and error handling for power systems.
  • Experience working in Linux deployment environments (Ubuntu preferred).
  • Device/protocol integration (Modbus TCP/IP; familiarity with DNP3/IEC-61850).
  • Git, CI/CD, automated testing; collaborative engineering practices.
  • Motivation to learn, take responsibility, add value within a team, and ability to work with supervision.
  • BA or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Mathematics from an accredited university with 2+ years of work experience. Related work experience will be considered in place of a master’s degree. Exposure to Power System Market Applications.
  • Experience with Industrial Protocols: Modbus TCP and MQTT.
  • Willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally, up to 5% of the time.
