Job description

The Data and Assessment Strategist analyzes and visualizes complex data and translates data into clear, meaningful insights that empower internal teams, demonstrate impact to participants, and inform strategic directions for CSCI. A major focus of the position is to help advance open scholarship through the analysis of open access business models for scholarly journals and the growing impact of open research infrastructure services. The incumbent also designs and manages a robust assessment program for the CSCI portfolio of products and services, ensuring that programmatic decisions are guided by evidence, transparency, and shared values that foster a culture of continuous improvement., * Monitor and engage with emerging and current library trends, products, services, and technologies by reading the professional literature; attending conferences; monitoring discussion lists; establishing personal networks with vendors, library personnel, and consortia leaders; and participating in other professional activities as may arise.

  • Collect and analyze publication data to support ongoing scholarly journal package negotiations for business models such as ReadPublish agreements.
  • Prepare reports for participating libraries in ReadPublish journal groups and in other types of open access models to show the impact of their investments.
  • Gather and analyze usage of key CSCI open research infrastructure services programs, e.g. ORCID, DataCite DOIs, to identify trends or gaps in adoption.
  • Prepare, improve, and promote the use of data visualizations to inform and support CSCI programs for internal and external purposes.
  • Analyze and interpret quantitative data from internal and external sources to inform CSCI decision-making, planning, strategy, and evaluation of programs and services.
  • Compile data used to prepare annual budgets.
  • Promote data transparency by establishing dashboards, regular reports, and other information to be easily accessible by Lyrasis staff through collective management tools, supporting the need for data to inform decisions.
  • Collaborate to establish methodologies, data-gathering techniques, documentation, and reporting necessary to develop a sustainable assessment program.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making, leading discussions about interpretations of results, and refining assessment methods.
  • Provide backup support to other Content and Scholarly Communication Initiatives team members as needed.
  • Perform any other additional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor or Director.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making, leading discussions about interpretations of results, and refining assessment methods.

  • Perform any other additional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor or Director., * This position is fully remote and requires sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Incumbent must be able to meet and communicate regularly via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and/or other teleconferencing means.
  • While this position is 100% remote, it requires occasional travel to Lyrasis company events and in-person professional development, meetings and/or conferences several times a year.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in data collection, dashboard development and data visualization using software such as Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, OpenRefine, etc.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or R is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of current practices and issues relating to libraries, particularly in the areas of collections and scholarly communication.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, teaching, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form strong collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a library, higher education, publishing, or related setting with responsibilities for assessment, data analysis, and reporting for general audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field., * Graduate degree in field such as data science, statistics, library and information science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with customer relationship management systems, content management systems, or library management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and work well under pressure with tact, discretion, and good judgment.
