Job description

The Senior Systems Engineer will develop, implement, and maintain system architectures, complex requirement flow downs, and system development processes. Acting as a technical lead, this role oversees system evaluation, performance optimization, workflow automation, and critical troubleshooting while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements and standards

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Perform system architecture, concept and requirements development

Lead system trade studies with team members

Technical lead on system level design development, integration and test

Develop systems requirements (functional, performance) from Statement of Work (SOW)

Decompose system level requirements to subsystems requirements with all engineering disciples (mechanical, electrical, system/software)

Develop interface control documents (ICDs)

Perform project engineering duties (liaison between program office, operations and engineering)

Develop compliance matrix, verification and validation plan, integration plan and design verification test (DVT) plan/procedure

Perform system modeling and performance analysis

Lead and perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and provide resolution

Support program technical interchange meetings (TIMs), design reviews and customer status meetings/questions

Facilitate and manage internal design reviews with engineering team (mechanical, electrical, system/software)

Manage design development (hardware/system/software) lifecycle process

Mentor junior and other engineers on technical development, engineering processes and best practices

Establish systems engineering processes in the department

Requirements

Photo-Sonics, Inc. is an international leader in state-of-the art optical tracking systems in Chatsworth and has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer. We’re seeking a multi-disciplinary candidate who is self-motivated and is able to set and meet goals., Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering from an accredited college or university

Master’s degree in engineering a plus

Experience:

10 years of systems engineering and design/development experience

Demonstrated experience designing, analyzing, and delivering precision mechanical assemblies and electro-mechanical systems

Hands-on experience supporting product development through full project lifecycle, including concept design, systems engineering, planning, and execution

Familiarity with full product lifecycle activities: development, integration, test, and troubleshooting

Desired Skills:

Requires knowledge across engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, electrical, electro-mechanical/controls and software)

Knowledge or experienced with tracking systems, radar, sonar

Optical, electrical, mechanical development background

Knowledge of Optics, system calibration, timing

Knowledge or experienced with gimbles, inertial measurement units, guidance systems

Knowledge and experienced in the application and adaptation of Commercial-Off-the Shelf (COTS) products to meet government system requirements.

Excellent presentation and communication (written and verbal) skills

Applicant must be able to obtain Security Clearance

Preferred Skills:

Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive industry

Experience in servo control methods, electro optical system performance modeling, design and testing; as well as designing, using, procuring or analyzing visible and infrared focal planes or detectors.

Cameras and optical sensors knowledge

Programming experience in C++ a plus

Familiarity with databases is a plus.

Prior experience with government contracts is desirable

Physical Requirements Include:

This position requires the ability to walk, sit, talk and hear, stand, and use hands to reach, handle, or feel.

Occasional climbing or balancing may be required in lab or field environments.

Position may require the ability to lift up to 15 lbs., stand, walk for long periods of time.
