Sr. Backend Developer

• Designs and codes backend services, APIs, and data-layer components following specifications using the appropriate tools.
• Maintains and modifies existing backend applications and services.
• Analyzes detailed systems factors, including input and output requirements, information flow, hardware and software requirements, and alternative methods of problem resolution.
• Participates in code reviews to represent reviewed work for adherence to standards and specifications.
• Writes or revises program documentation, operations documentation, and API documentation in accordance with standards.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot production application and data issues.
• Promote and drive innovation in technologies, processes, and tools.
• Use unit and integration testing to ensure systems meet business needs.

We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Sr. Backend Developer to join our Keeper USA team. In this role, you will modernize and expand backend services for a current VA software platform, including support for a companion mobile application, using a technology stack comprised of Node.js, Java, AWS CodePipeline, MS SQL, and RDS Native. Involved in planning of system architecture and deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. May build add-on modules using application program language., * This role requires the successful completion of a U.S. Government Public Trust background investigation. Candidates must be eligible to meet this requirement - MANDATORY

• U.S. citizenship for a minimum of five consecutive years, due to U.S. Government contract and Public Trust eligibility requirements. - MANDATORY
• Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years (or commensurate experience) - MANDATORY
• Experience in an agile environment like Scrum or SAFe.
• At least five years of direct, continuous work experience with Node.js and/or Java in a production backend environment.
• At least five years of direct experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Experience using non-relational and relational databases like MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle.
• Four or more years of programming experience using open-source server-side platforms in languages such as JavaScript (Node.js) and Python.
• Understanding of fundamental web protocols and data formats: HTTP, SSL, and JSON.
• Must be able to design, discuss, and document system strategies for platform, applications, and networks.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs for consumption by external clients and downstream services.
• Experience integrating with external REST web services.
• Experience integrating with external SOAP web services.
• Experience working with frequently updated open-source libraries.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and SOLID design principles.
• Proficient with Git, GitHub, and Markdown text.
• Proficient spelling, grammar, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or related field. On a special case-by-case basis, five years of related work experience may be considered in place of a degree for otherwise highly qualified candidates.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• CloudFormation, EC2, S3, ELB, VPC, and networking in AWS.
• Lambda, API Gateway, Serverless Framework.
• Experience with Docker, ECS.
• Experience with CI/CD implementation.
• Experience with AWS EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda functions.
• Experience using API and JSON Schema standards.
• Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization at scale.
• Experience supporting public-facing web applications with a large user base.
• Experience building data pipelines or backend integrations for reporting tools like Tableau, Power BI.
• Experience with VA and/or other Federal Agencies.
