About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One. With approximately 1.17 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American, 38 percent Latino, 21 percent Anglo, 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races. Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 21 parks, 10 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.   • Progressing equity and social and racial justice as common threads through all areas of public policy and public service., The Security Systems Coordinator oversees the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s physical and technical security infrastructure. This role ensures that all security systems-including access control, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems-operate reliably and effectively to protect personnel, facilities, and assets. The coordinator works closely with internal departments, external vendors, and security leadership to support system upgrades, troubleshoot issues, maintain compliance, and enhance the overall safety posture of the organization. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain physical security systems, including access control platforms, CCTV networks, intrusion detection systems, and related hardware/software.
  • Manage user access rights, badge creation, and system permissions in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Perform routine system audits, health checks, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  • Coordinate installation, repair, and upgrades of security equipment with vendors, contractors, and internal IT teams.
  • Troubleshoot system issues, document resolutions, and escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, maintenance logs, and security equipment inventory.
  • Assist in developing and implementing security procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Support incident investigations by retrieving footage, access logs, and system data.
  • Participate in security planning, risk assessments, and improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on security system use and access protocols., * Participates in a rotating on-call schedule and responds to field service requests as required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience., * 2 years of experience supporting physical security systems, access control, CCTV, or alarm systems.
  • Experience working with security vendors, integrators, or technical support teams.
  • Hands-on experience with system administration, hardware troubleshooting, or networked security devices.
  • Experience in a corporate, campus, healthcare, or government security environment is a plus., * Understanding of physical security principles, access control workflows, and surveillance technologies.
  • Knowledge of networked devices, IP-based systems, and basic IT infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with security compliance standards and organizational security policies.

Skills

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with security system software, dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • Effective communication skills for working with staff, leadership, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive security information responsibly.
  • Ability to analyze system data and recommend improvements to enhance security operations., * Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Certifications such as ASIS PSP, Lenel/S2, Genetec, Milestone, or other manufacturer-specific credentials., * This is a physically active position which requires exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
