Data Scientist

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to support data-driven innovation across government services. In this role, you will work on high-impact projects that enhance public service delivery, improve operational transparency, and empower agencies with actionable insights.

Day-to-Day Impact

• Contribute to the enhancement of predictive models that estimate processing timelines for public service requests and deliver personalized status updates to end users.
• Support the development and deployment of models across new service areas, based on agency priorities.
• Collaborate with teams to expand the capabilities of intelligent help agents through integration with external data sources and applications.
• Implement data cleaning and scrubbing strategies to ensure unstructured data is accurate, appropriate, and safe for public-facing use.
• Analyze customer data, including biometric or behavioral signals, to identify reliable identity verification indicators.
• Help design and maintain ETL pipelines to transition from transactional systems to customer- or citizen-centric data models.
• Communicate technical findings through visualizations, reports, or dashboards tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with policy, engineering, and operations teams to ensure analytics solutions align with mission goals and regulatory requirements.
• Support efforts around data governance, ethical AI, and responsible use of data in government settings.
• Participate in Agile workflows and contribute to continuous delivery of data science capabilities.

• 3+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied machine learning.
• Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modeling, and pipeline development (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy).
• Solid experience working with structured and unstructured data, including data cleaning and feature engineering.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases; familiarity with ETL concepts.
• Strong understanding of predictive modeling and statistical methods.
• Ability to work with sensitive data in a secure, compliant manner.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for documenting analysis and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with Agile or iterative project development methodologies.

• Experience working with federal government datasets or projects
• Familiarity with chatbot technology, intelligent agents, or API integration.
• Exposure to working with biometric data or identity verification systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP in secure environments.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks or responsible AI practices.
• Existing security clearance (preferred but not required)., * High school or equivalent (Preferred), * Databricks: 5 years (Preferred)
• Data science: 3 years (Preferred)
