Job description

Are you passionate about automation, robotics, and software development? We’re seeking a Python Machine Automation Engineer to join an innovative R&D team developing software that powers advanced automated agricultural research systems.

In this role, you’ll help build applications that communicate with robotic equipment, develop APIs and databases, and contribute to the design of next-generation automation technology. You’ll collaborate with engineers throughout the product lifecycle while working in a fast-paced research environment where creativity and innovation are encouraged.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop software used to control and interact with automated machinery and robotic systems.
  • Create web applications using Python and modern web technologies.
  • Design and develop JSON APIs for communication between software and automated equipment.
  • Design and optimize relational databases and SQL queries.
  • Debug, test, analyze, and enhance automation software.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of software used in agricultural research.
  • Participate in product design discussions and technical planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams throughout development and testing.
  • Help improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of U.S.-based professional experience that directly reflects the required technical qualifications listed below., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (required).

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of U.S.-based professional experience directly related to the required technologies.
  • 2+ years of professional Python development experience.
  • Strong SQL query development experience.
  • Experience with relational database design.
  • Experience developing JSON APIs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Ankeny, Iowa.

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Git source control
  • Agile software development
  • Automated machinery or robotics
