Job description

The Network Operations and Support Specialist at Brooks School will work with the Director of Technology in a hands-on team environment with other members of the Information Technology department to provide quality technology support and services to the school community. With a focus on networking and infrastructure, the position will also assist in managing the day-to-day technology operations of the school, including help desk, hardware, software, audio-visual, and security systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY OBJECTIVES:

  • Network Operations and Infrastructure

  • Management, installation, and support of wired and wireless networking systems

  • Maintain and support cybersecurity systems, including firewalls and endpoint protection * Maintain and support the campus VoIP systems

  • Maintain a fiber-based campus network across multiple buildings

  • Systems and Server Management

  • Assist and support in the administration of Windows Servers

  • Assist in systems management, including Active Directory, VMware, SAN storage, and cloud backup systems. * Assist in the management of core systems, particularly Google Workspace

  • Help Desk and Technical Support

  • Assist employees and students with issues as they arise (Mac OS and Windows) * Assist with classroom technology and audio-visual equipment throughout campus

  • Set up audio-visual equipment and provide technical support for campus events

  • Other Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary manager of relationships with third-party vendors

  • Assist the Director of Technology in large-scale projects, technology design, and cybersecurity planning

  • Collaborate with the Facilities and Security team in managing campus security systems (card access, security cameras, speakers, etc.)

  • Basic assistance with some 3D printing and makerspace tools

  • Some night and weekend work is required to support off-hour emergencies or campus events that require technology support

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of IT/networking experience, preferably in an educational environment

  • A solid foundation in local network management and administration, including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, implementation, and user support

  • Customer-focused with an approachable demeanor and the ability to keep a positive and calm attitude in a fast-paced environment

  • Must work well as part of a team with the ability to balance duties and step in as needed

  • A strong desire to learn new skills and a willingness to cross-train with team members, * A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related is preferred * Technical certifications are a plus, * Must be able to walk and support users and equipment across a large campus

  • Must be able to walk up stairs, climb a ladder, and remain on one’s feet for periods of time * Must be able to lift up to 30lbs as needed
