Job description

Brevard College is seeking a dependable Network & Systems Administrator to support, maintain, and enhance the College’s enterprise technology infrastructure. This hands-on position is responsible for administering wired and wireless networks, virtualization platforms, servers, firewalls, cloud services, and end-user technology while also assisting with structured cabling, low-voltage systems, audiovisual equipment, and campus technology deployments.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical problems, is committed to excellent customer service, and is equally comfortable configuring enterprise network equipment, troubleshooting server infrastructure, installing network cabling, or assisting users through the help desk., Network Administration

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise wired and wireless networks.

  • Administer Ubiquiti switches, wireless access points, network controllers, and related infrastructure.

  • Configure and maintain Fortinet firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, network policies, and security services.

  • Monitor network availability, performance, and capacity, and diagnose complex connectivity issues.

  • Maintain network diagrams, IP address records, inventories, configuration documentation, and change records.

  • Assist with network security, system hardening, segmentation, and infrastructure improvements.

Systems Administration

  • Administer Proxmox virtualization hosts, clusters, virtual machines, storage, and related services.

  • Support Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Assist with Google Workspace administration and identity-related services.

  • Support backup, disaster recovery, storage, monitoring, and enterprise infrastructure services.

  • Install, configure, document, and maintain physical and virtual server systems.

Help Desk and End-User Support

  • Assist help desk as needed.

  • Respond to service requests through the IT help desk and remote monitoring and management tools..

  • Assist users with Google Workspace, Microsoft services, account access, multifactor authentication, and common application issues.

  • Document solutions, communicate clearly with users, and escalate issues when appropriate.

Infrastructure and Low-Voltage Systems

  • Install, route, terminate, test, label, and document structured network cabling.

  • Install and maintain wireless access points, network racks, patch panels, switches, and related infrastructure.

  • Install and support IP security cameras and electronic access-control systems.

  • Install and maintain classroom audiovisual equipment, digital displays, projectors, speakers, and related technology.

  • Maintain professional cable management, accurate labeling, and complete infrastructure documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work with IT staff, facilities personnel, contractors, vendors, faculty, staff, and other campus users.

  • Participate in technology upgrades, maintenance windows, and campus-wide infrastructure projects.

  • Assist with evaluating, testing, and implementing new technologies.

  • Perform additional IT duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting computer networks, systems, end users, or related technology in a professional environment.

  • Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking.

  • Experience troubleshooting Windows computers, common applications, printers, and network-connected devices.

  • Ability to install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured network cabling and low-voltage systems.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to responsive customer service.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, document work accurately, and work independently or as part of a small team.

  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar systems, ask questions, and take on new responsibilities., * Experience administering Ubiquiti networking equipment and enterprise Wi-Fi environments.

  • Experience administering HP/Aruba enterprise switches and related network infrastructure.

  • Experience with Fortinet firewalls, VPNs, network policies, and security services.

  • Experience administering Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V, or another enterprise virtualization platform.

  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, backup systems, and cloud services.

  • Experience with database administration, maintenance, backup, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with PowerShell, scripting, or administrative automation.

  • Experience using help desk and remote monitoring and management platforms.

  • Experience with IP surveillance, electronic access control, audiovisual systems, or other low-voltage technologies., * Ability to lift and carry technology and installation equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier equipment with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts or elevated platforms.

  • Ability to work above ceilings, in equipment rooms, and in confined or difficult-to-access areas.

  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach overhead, and remain on your feet for extended periods.

  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and installation equipment.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
