Our client is private equity-backed operating company seeking an experienced Interim Workday Payroll Configuration Consultant to provide targeted support related to an organizational and payroll-system change. The consultant will assess the existing Workday Payroll environment, identify configuration or process gaps, and support the changes required for payroll to operate accurately within an updated organizational structure.
This engagement requires a hands-on Workday Payroll specialist who can quickly understand the current environment, determine the appropriate configuration approach, and either complete the necessary changes or provide clear direction to the internal team responsible for implementation. The consultant will work with payroll, HR, finance, accounting, technology, and other stakeholders to support configuration, testing, issue resolution, and payroll readiness., * Review the current Workday Payroll configuration and related organizational setup.
- Identify configuration, data, security, integration, or business-process issues affecting payroll readiness.
- Support the configuration or modification of payroll-related organizational structures within Workday.
- Configure or advise on Workday Payroll components required to support accurate payroll processing.
- Review relevant setup areas, including - Payroll companies and organizations, Worker assignments, Pay groups and pay frequencies, Earnings and deductions, Tax configurations, Costing allocations, Payment elections, Business processes, Security roles, and Payroll calendars.
- Accounting and reporting dependencies
- Evaluate how proposed changes may affect payroll calculations, integrations, financial reporting, and downstream processes.
- Partner with payroll, HR, finance, accounting, IT, and systems stakeholders to confirm requirements and resolve issues.
- Support payroll testing, including calculation reviews, process validation, integration testing, and reconciliation.
- Troubleshoot errors or incomplete setup that may prevent payroll from processing correctly.
- Document configuration changes, dependencies, risks, decisions, and recommended actions.
- Provide practical guidance to support accurate and timely payroll execution.
- Help ensure the configuration aligns with applicable controls, compliance requirements, reporting expectations, and operating procedures.
- Provide knowledge transfer and documentation to support ongoing administration after the engagement., * Have you previously set up, enabled, or supported a new entity in Workday Payroll?
- Can you travel optionally to onsite if required ?
- Please briefly describe your experience diagnosing and resolving Workday Payroll configuration issues that prevented payroll from being processed correctly.
- Please describe the experience were you supported payroll testing and validation for a new entity, including earnings, deductions, taxes, pay groups, integrations, or downstream reporting?
Requirements
- Hands-on Workday Payroll configuration experience required.
- Experience configuring or modifying payroll structures for organizational changes required.
- Prior experience supporting the setup, activation, or modification of a payroll company, employer structure, operating unit, or comparable organizational component within Workday.
- Ability to diagnose Workday Payroll issues & independently perform or guide the required configuration work.
- Understanding of Workday Payroll processing, configuration dependencies, testing, and business processes.
- Experience with payroll companies, pay groups, earnings, deductions, taxes, costing, worker assignments, security, and related configuration areas.
- Experience supporting complex or changing organizational environments preferred.
- Experience partnering with payroll, HR, finance, accounting, IT, and systems teams.
- Ability to evaluate both technical configuration issues and their operational or financial impact.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, project-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited ramp-up time.
- Ability to translate technical findings into clear business risks, recommendations, and action plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, human resources, information systems, or a related discipline preferred.
- Availability to begin quickly and provide focused support through configuration, testing, and payroll readiness.
