Job description

We need an experienced API Lifecycle Automation Developer at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This position supports the IRS Enterprise API Gateway Modernization and Operations (EAGMO) effort, automating API onboarding and lifecycle management. In this role, you will design and maintain automated onboarding workflows integrated into approved CI/CD pipelines, including registration, access approval, provisioning, and RBAC enforcement. You will build configuration as code artifacts for API lifecycle management, develop Developer Portal capabilities, implement automated governance and Zero Trust validation checks, and maintain API standards documentation, working toward mandated onboarding automation targets.   • Builds and maintains configuration-as-code artifacts supporting API lifecycle management (creation, versioning, deprecation, retirement).
  • Develops and integrates Developer Portal capabilities such as searchable API catalog, documentation, usage instructions, self-service access request workflows - and ensures integration with enterprise identity/access management.
  • Implements automated governance and Zero Trust validation checks within onboarding/migration pipelines so noncompliant APIs are blocked from progressing to production. Works toward mandated 75% reduction in manual onboarding steps and
  • 90% automated onboarding success rate without manual rework.
  • Maintains API standards documentation (naming conventions, versioning, schema guidance, error handling, security/authentication requirements)., Other Considerations: applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience performing similar duties to this role
  • Experience designing, developing, validating, and maintaining secure EAG/API-gateway automation workflows, configuration-as code, developer portal integrations, and reusable API lifecycle capabilities within Government-approved CI/CD environments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • MBI is preferred
