Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO)

HC Financial Consultants is seeking an experienced Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to provide part-time information security support for federal consulting engagements involving Government-furnished information.

This role will support project teams by coordinating contract-specific information security activities, assisting with Assessment and Authorization (A&A) documentation, and working with Government stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable information security requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ISSO seeking flexible project-based work with a growing federal consulting firm.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support contract-specific information security activities.
• Coordinate with Government Information Systems Security Officers (ISSOs), Contracting Officers, and CORs, as required.
• Assist with Assessment and Authorization (A&A) documentation.
• Prepare or support control implementation documentation, as applicable.
• Review security documentation for completeness and compliance.
• Support project teams in implementing Government information security requirements.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and security planning activities as required.
• Provide information security guidance throughout project execution.

· Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.

· Demonstrated experience serving as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) or in an equivalent federal information security role supporting Government information systems.

· Experience supporting Federal Assessment & Authorization (A&A) and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes within a Federal Government or Federal contractor environment.

· Demonstrated experience preparing or supporting security documentation, including control implementation statements and other Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation required for system authorization.

· Working knowledge of the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), including application of NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, and Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) requirements.

· Experience coordinating with Government ISSOs, Project Managers, Contracting Officers, CORs, security assessors, and other federal stakeholders throughout the A&A process.

· Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and defensible technical documentation.

· Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based consulting environment.

· Experience supporting the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), or other civilian Federal agencies.

Preferred Experience

· Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

· Experience supporting healthcare or healthcare-related Federal information systems.

· Professional certifications such as CISSP, CAP, CISM, or equivalent.

· Experience supporting small business federal contractors or consulting firms., Applicants must be able to provide documentation verifying residency, such as:
