Job description

The Cloud Engineer I supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Digital Solutions Organization (DSO) by designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing secure cloud-based infrastructure and services. The engineer will work within Agile delivery teams to deploy and manage cloud environments that support mission-critical VA applications while ensuring compliance with VA security, privacy, and operational standards., * Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure within Azure and AWS environments.

  • Support migration of legacy applications into cloud-hosted architectures.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep.
  • Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Configure cloud networking components
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure performance and availability.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Assist with cloud cost optimization and resource utilization monitoring.
  • Implement cloud security best practices
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Produce technical documentation
  • Coordinate with system administrators, application developers, cybersecurity engineers, and project managers.
  • Support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities and audit requests.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Department of Veterans Affairs Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badge (VA badge).
  • Must be eligible to continue supporting VA systems and maintain all required background investigation requirements., This position requires hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, automation, DevSecOps practices, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code within enterprise cloud environments supporting federal government systems., Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Engineering
  • Information Systems

or

Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience

Minimum 4 years of professional IT experience including:

  • 2+ years supporting enterprise cloud environments
  • Experience supporting federal government or regulated environments
  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud services
  • Experience deploying Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Experience supporting Windows and Linux cloud workloads

Benefits & conditions

$85 - $95 an hour - Full-time, Candidates must meet all of the following requirements before being considered:

  • Active Department of Veterans Affairs PIV badge (VA badge) with current access.
  • U.S. Citizenship.

Pay: $85.00 - $95.00 per hour
