Job description

Unlike many IT roles, you’ll be able to focus primarily on the IBM i environment while a third-party managed services provider handles the majority of the network and infrastructure responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and maintain mission-critical IBM i / AS400 business applications
  • Troubleshoot production issues, including record locks and data integrity concerns
  • Modify, maintain, and enhance RPG II and RPG400 applications
  • Gradually modernize legacy System/36 applications and convert older programs to current technologies
  • Support the company’s migration to IBM Power9 hardware
  • Work directly with end users to troubleshoot issues and improve business processes
  • Coordinate with a third-party managed services provider on infrastructure-related needs
  • Maintain system documentation, software licensing, and security standards
  • Travel occasionally to other company locations as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of IBM i / AS400 experience
  • Strong RPG II, RPG400, System/36, and CL programming skills
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or distribution business applications
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting production environments
  • Ability to modernize and enhance legacy applications
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with business users
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
