Job description

API Design & Development

  • Design and build scalable RESTful APIs with NestJS (modules, controllers, services, guards, pipes) including authentication flows via JWT and Firebase Auth.

Database & Data Architecture

  • Design and manage PostgreSQL schemas, write optimised queries, and handle migrations; model Firestore collections for real-time use cases, choosing the right database layer per requirement.

Cloud & Firebase

  • Develop and deploy Firebase Cloud Functions, configure Storage and Firestore security rules, and manage environment-specific settings across dev, staging, and production.

Containerisation & Infrastructure

  • Write and maintain Dockerfiles and docker-compose setups; deploy and operate workloads on Kubernetes (deployments, services, ingress, auto-scaling, health checks).

Monorepo (Nx)

  • Maintain back-end apps and shared libraries inside the Nx monorepo; define cross-team DTOs and interfaces; leverage Nx caching and affected commands to keep pipelines fast.

Quality, Testing & DevOps

  • Write unit and integration tests (Jest, Supertest); maintain CI/CD pipelines from build and test to containerised deployment; monitor production health through structured logging and alerting.

Collaboration

  • Partner with front-end and mobile engineers to design APIs that match real product needs; mentor interns and junior engineers; document architectural decisions.

Requirements

Must Have

  • 3+ years of professional back-end experience in TypeScript / Node.js.
  • Production experience with NestJS or a comparable Node.js framework.
  • Hands-on PostgreSQL: schema design, query optimisation, and migrations.
  • Practical Docker experience: Dockerfiles, multi-stage builds, and docker-compose.
  • Working Kubernetes knowledge: deploying and operating workloads in a live cluster.
  • Firebase experience: Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions, and Storage.
  • Experience in a monorepo environment (Nx, Turborepo, or similar).

Strong Plus

  • Working knowledge of React, Next.js, or React Native.
  • Familiarity with event-driven patterns (Bull, Pub/Sub, Kafka) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Helm, Kustomize).

Profile and Mindset:

  • Ownership mentality - you see problems through from identification to resolution.
  • Clear communicator, able to explain trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Autonomous and proactive; rigorous about security, data integrity, and backward compatibility.
  • Team player who shares knowledge, writes good documentation, and lifts those around them.
