Job description

Reporting to the Bayer Digital Farming (DFS) Head of Engineering, the Sr. Director, Cloud and Infrastructure Home Lead is responsible for delivering Engineering operational excellence in support of the DFS business strategy through strategic leadership for the Cloud, Infrastructure, and AI community. In this role, you will align engineering talent, organizational structure, financial investment, technical leadership, and operational excellence to enable scalable, secure, and intelligent platforms that drive sustainable business growth. You will also partner across other communities to align engineering strategy, workforce planning, career progression, organizational effectiveness, engineering economics, and technical leadership development., The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Cloud and Infrastructure community, driving talent development, workforce planning, and engineering capability growth.
  • Develop engineering talent through coaching, career development, succession planning, and leadership pipeline growth across cloud and infrastructure teams.
  • Champion a culture of trust, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning that empowers employees to grow and deliver impact.
  • Lead the definition and adoption of cloud and infrastructure engineering standards, development practices, and architectural principles that drive scalability, security, and operational reliability.
  • Shape the strategic direction of cloud platforms and infrastructure technologies, including cloud-native architectures, infrastructure-as-code, networking, compute/storage platforms, and enterprise integration capabilities.
  • Align engineering talent and capabilities with business priorities to maximize organizational impact and value delivery.
  • Serve as a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, influencing strategy, operating models, investments, and execution.
  • Drive adoption of AI, automation, and modern infrastructure practices (platform engineering, GitOps, observability) to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Provide executive oversight of cloud and infrastructure programs and initiatives, ensuring delivery commitments are met while balancing quality, risk, cost, and resource constraints.
  • Manage engineering budgets, vendor strategy, and investment allocation for cloud and infrastructure platforms.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and partnerships that advance delivery excellence, engineering metrics, planning effectiveness, and business outcomes.
  • Partner across other engineering communities to align strategy, workforce planning, career progression, organizational effectiveness, engineering economics, and technical leadership development.

Requirements

  • 15+ years professional experience managing a global, high growth engineering team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience leading multi-layer engineering organizations (managers, architects, technical leads) within cloud and infrastructure domains.
  • Expertise in cloud-native architectures, infrastructure-as-code, hybrid/multi-cloud environments, networking, and platform engineering.
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling skills-based career progression frameworks and workforce development programs.
  • Strong financial and resource stewardship skills, including budget management, vendor strategy, and portfolio-level investment decisions.
  • Track record of driving engineering excellence through standardized practices, metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with nearshore/contractor sourcing models and global engineering delivery.
  • Skilled in change management and organizational transformation.
  • Excellent executive communication skills; able to translate technical and organizational data into actionable business outcomes.
  • Experience fostering inclusive, high-trust engineering cultures that drive employee engagement and retention.
  • Familiarity with driving AI and automation adoption in infrastructure and platform engineering contexts.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, partnering with security, architecture, and business stakeholders.

Benefits & conditions

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately $177k-266k. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive program (if relevant).
