Job description

The Cybersecurity Navigator is a strategic, stakeholder-facing role focused on strengthening cybersecurity readiness across Maine’s local and state government organizations. This position leads statewide cybersecurity outreach, vendor coordination, election security initiatives, and collaboration with public-sector partners to improve cyber resilience, protect critical infrastructure, and promote cybersecurity best practices. While primarily remote, the role requires periodic travel throughout Maine to engage with stakeholders and support statewide initiatives., * Coordinate and oversee statewide cybersecurity outreach initiatives, ensuring alignment among vendors, government entities, and key stakeholders.

  • Manage cybersecurity-related vendor relationships, contracts, performance metrics, and compliance with procurement requirements.
  • Develop and support cybersecurity awareness, education, training, and outreach programs for local governments and statewide partners.
  • Promote the adoption of cybersecurity best practices and leverage federal and state resources to improve organizational cyber maturity.
  • Assess cybersecurity capability gaps and recommend practical solutions, including grant-funded or vendor-supported initiatives.
  • Partner with election officials and the Secretary of State’s Office to enhance election system and critical infrastructure security.
  • Support strategic planning efforts and execute statewide cybersecurity engagement strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with federal agencies, state departments, local governments, industry organizations, and community partners.
  • Coordinate with organizations such as CISA and EI-ISAC to align cybersecurity and election security efforts.
  • Develop reports, documentation, schedules, and work products to independently manage projects, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
  • Track program performance, monitor deliverables, and ensure accountability across large-scale cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, meetings, and written materials.

  • Experience working with state, local, or federal government organizations.
  • Familiarity with election security, critical infrastructure protection, or cybersecurity governance.
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, grants, or public-sector funding programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications are a plus.
