Job description

The Closures Systems Engineer will be responsible for concept development and detailed design of the door, hood, drop glass, and liftgate opening systems through multiple stages of development. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of full vehicle closures components.

What you’ll do…

Create and develop closures geometry and engineering execution in conjunction with design, supply chain, and other core teams.

Create vehicle-aligned component and system targets for function, cost, weight, and investment.

Develop 3D geometry and innovative designs concepts that solve challenging crash load cases while balancing construction, material, and manufacturing methods.

Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments, ensuring conformation to federal regulations governing assigned systems.

Deliver world-class craftsmanship and fit/finish through the proper implementation of GD&T.

Develop, study, and implement novel construction techniques and materials then drive them to production feasibility. Build physical prototypes to prove out interaction models, materials, structures, or electrical interaction.

Enable effective communications with Studio, Packaging, Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier activities to deliver optimal design solutions.

Support presentations of concepts and status to senior management and internally to Company personnel in an integration and subject matter expert role.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

5+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing one or more automotive closures subsystem and adjoining parts including component manufacturing and assembly processes.

3+ years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, Catia, 3DX, etc.)

2+ year of experience in the production release process

2+ years designing to world automotive legal requirements

1+ year of experience in a factory setting launching a new product

Even better, you may have…

Excellent understanding of GD&T standards

High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modelling practices and methodologies

Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products

Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications

Strong written and verbal communication skills

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Accomplishment from a recognized Design educational institution, or equivalent skills and expertise

An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $146,520-276,600.
