Job description

We are seeking an experienced Rear Closures Core Engineer to serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the design, development, and release of automotive closure systems. This role will focus on all aspects of rear vehicle closures, including liftgates, tailgates, cargo doors, swing gates, hinges, latches, mechanisms, sheet metal structures, and system integration. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong technical expertise and a proven track record of developing automotive products from concept through launch. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish engineering requirements, develop validation strategies, and ensure customer expectations for performance, quality, and reliability are achieved., * Develop and release technical requirements, specifications, and engineering strategies for rear closure systems.

  • Lead product development activities from concept through production launch.
  • Create and maintain core engineering documentation, including:
  • DVP&R
  • DFMEA/FMA
  • Technical Specifications
  • Validation Plans
  • Engineering Requirements
  • Perform competitive benchmarking and analysis of closure systems.
  • Support system integration activities involving hinges, latches, sealing systems, power struts, motors, and related components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing issues.
  • Utilize engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, structural mechanics, and mechanism analysis, to develop robust solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement and corrective action efforts for current production programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing automotive closure systems such as:
  • Liftgates
  • Tailgates
  • Doors
  • Hoods
  • Cargo Doors
  • Experience authoring technical requirements, specifications, DFMEAs, and DVP&R documents.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes from concept through launch.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 and/or 3DX.
  • Ability to review, measure, section, and perform basic modeling of CAD data.
  • Knowledge of statics, dynamics, free body diagrams, mechanisms, and structural engineering principles., * Direct experience with closure systems, including hinges, latches, sealing systems, gas struts, power liftgate systems, and closure mechanisms.
  • Experience with sheet metal structures, stamping, welding, riveting, injection molding, castings, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Systems Engineering principles.
  • Experience performing benchmarking and competitive analysis.
  • Familiarity with:
  • FEA
  • DFMEA
  • Control Plans
  • Dimensional Variation Analysis
  • Teamcenter Engineering
  • Digital Buck
  • Experience solving product quality concerns and implementing corrective actions.
  • Understanding of hinge dynamics, bolted structures, and four-bar linkage kinematics.
