Job description

The Senior Software Engineer will develop motion planning software tailored to robotic manipulation in packing applications. Responsibilities include:

  • Playing a key role in delivering scalable solutions for tightly constrained, high-efficiency packing scenarios in real-world deployments.

  • Designing, selecting, applying, and improving motion planning software optimized for packing and spatial arrangement.

  • Developing robust solutions for packing diverse object geometries into constrained locations.

  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address challenges related to collision avoidance, packing density, and operational efficiency.

  • Debugging, testing, and verifying software on physical robotic systems in dynamic environments.

  • Staying informed on the latest advancements in motion planning and packing optimization, incorporating them into practical solutions.

  • Participating in code reviews, technical discussions, and team collaboration to ensure high quality solutions.

Staying abreast of the latest advancements in perception and robotics, evaluating applicability to our challenges. Telecommuting is an option as long as the employee is based in the Bedford, MA region as the employee must conduct regular visits to company offices in the Bedford, MA region. Salary: One hundred fifty-nine thousand three hundred ninety to one hundred eighty-nine thousand three hundred ninety dollars per year. Travel Requirement: At least 5% domestic travel per year.

Requirements

The employer requires a master’s degree in computer vision, robotics, computer engineering, or a closely related field, and at least two (2) years of work experience in software development within the robotics or automation industry. Alternatively, the employer requires a bachelor’s degree in computer vision, robotics, computer engineering, or a closely related field, and at least five (5) years of progressively more responsible work experience in software development within the robotics or automation industry. In addition, the employer requires the following:

  • Demonstrated ability developing and debugging real world robotic systems gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability with python code and C++ gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability developing in a Linux-based environment gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt motion planning algorithms to 6-DoF industrial robotic arms gained through at least one (1) year of work experience. Demonstrated ability with ROS (Robot Operating System), OpenRAVE, MoveIt, or other equivalent robotic motion planning and execution frameworks gained through at least one (1) year of work experience. All years of experience may be gained concurrently.
