Job description

Cogent Communications LLC is seeking an enthusiastic Data Center Engineer in the Overland Park, KS area. The successful candidate will have the technical experience to engage and oversee vendors for datacenter critical infrastructure installations, upgrades and failures, supporting site engineering projects for budget, risks and deliverables. You should have worked knowledge of data center systems including structural, fire systems, generators, UPS power, HVAC, chillers, security, diesel/fuel storage vessels

Engineering and design of the power, space, and cooling aspects of our data centers in North America.

Liaising with the Data Center Operations team to maintain site capacity including electrical, mechanical and control systems.

Direct the coordination of local Data Center Operations teams and contractors to support the installation and maintenance of critical infrastructure.

Provide cost-effective data center solutions that meet the requirements of the business.

Participate in remote data center audits, as required, for the facility infrastructure that is conducted by both internal and external entities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the design and engineering of the data centers and the standards by which the facility infrastructure is to be operated and maintained with the support of local site Data Center Operations teams

Requirements

The position requires having a working knowledge of the electrical & mechanical infrastructure that is required to support data center environments.

Working knowledge of the overall data center environment that spans across the facility, raised floor, and structured cabling infrastructure.

2-4 years engineering critical building or data center systems experience.

Proficiency in the design and operation of data center critical facility infrastructure. This includes UPS, Cooling, and backup power systems.

The ability to present complex engineering subject matter to a non-technical audience. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to communicate with all levels of the organization.

Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize workload with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and the organization.

Good teamwork, communication/information sharing skills and influencing skills are necessary.

Experience with Visio, and MS suite of software tools are essential

Compensation: [Starting / Initial] Base Salary Pay Range: $70,000-$90,000/yr.
