Job description
White County will be accepting applications for the position of System Administrator for the White County Information Technology Department. This position performs advanced technical work supporting and maintaining the County’s information technology systems and infrastructure., This position performs advanced technical work supporting and maintaining the County’s information technology systems and infrastructure., * Resolves complex systems, server, network, and infrastructure issues that require advanced technical support.
- Support Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and workstation environments
- Makes needed upgrades and repairs to networks to ensure proper operation.
- Prepares documentation on new processes as well as on old systems for others to follow on set-up and maintenance.
- Create and maintain network diagrams, SOPs, and documentation.
- Provides users with technical instruction and guidance regarding county systems, applications, and security procedures.
- Diagnoses and resolves problems when alerted by a user or an automated monitoring system.
- Adds network users and assigns security permissions.
- Evaluates and optimizes network and system performance.
- Maintains the county phone system.
- Maintains the county’s remote camera system network.
- Participates in an On-call rotation for Emergency services.
- Performs related duties., The IT Director assigns work through general instructions, established priorities, and departmental objectives. The IT Director reviews completed work for compliance with applicable procedures, standards, and expected results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include industry best practices; manufacturer installation, operations, and repair manuals; GCIC policies; and department and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied systems administration duties. Frequent changes to industry standards and the variety of systems to be managed contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to administer the county’s information technology systems. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of county operations.

- Contacts are typically with coworkers, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, distinguishes between shades of color, and enters confined spaces.
- The work is typically performed in an office and in other county facilities.
Requirements
- Knowledge of multiple computer systems, programs, and architecture.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of computerized applications, including system design and analysis, hardware and software, database applications, and network applications and capabilities.
- Knowledge of computer industry trends and standards.
- Knowledge of cyber security principles.
- Skill in troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software problems.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication., * Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related Computer Science or Information Technology.
- Three to five years of progressively advanced technical experience in systems administration, network support, server administration, or a closely related information technology field.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screening, and possession of or the ability to readily obtain GCIC certification.
- Professional certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, or other recognized information technology certification providers, including Server+ and Network+, are preferred but not required.
