Job description

  • An experienced Environments & Release Manager, with experience of working in this role on major programmes, projects and continuous improvement teams occupying the same environments for multiple project / development phases.
  • Change and Release Management experiences for both Agile and Waterfall project releases., * Define and agree a release management strategy with third parties and other global application owners.
  • Forward plan the release schedules and cycles across the programme.
  • The management, coordination and acceptance of all third parties / global application releases into the shared integrated environment, including release into production.
  • Ensure environments are maintained, clean, and remain well managed
  • Ensuring adequate checks are in place and completed ahead of any release (production) - including managing any risks that affect the release scope.
  • Ensure consistency between environments is maintained
  • Cost management for each environment is managed and maintained within agreed budgets - using MS Azure
  • Ensuring pipeline governance is aligned between teams and the right approvals are happening at the right stages/levels
  • Ensure traceability of deliverables is working well between environments
  • Environment pipeline ownership is defined for any new pipelines, and maintenance of pipelines is upheld.
  • Automation happens for all deliverables, with only very serious exceptions allowed.
  • Ensure “what” is being released is approved and agreed
  • Ensure “quality” of releases have been signed off and Service Transition steps are happening for each release
  • Create MI for release “packages” across workstreams
  • Engage with Business Readiness to ensure Releases are well received
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes.
  • Communicate and manage environment outages.
  • Work with the internal clients IT SME’s and external supplier teams to ensure correct source system integration is available for releases.
  • Troubleshoot and lead resolution of integration issues in complex environments including the alerting of end-of-life applications/infrastructure products to create a plan to deal with systems environment obsolescence.
  • Establish and supplement technical documentation, practice good knowledge-management hygiene
  • Maintain and support internal tools used in the delivery process, such as Azure DevOps etc.
  • Coordination between BAU, continual improvement, projects
  • To work with the Applications Support Manager and team for production issues relating to IT environments and to also provide cover for when the Environments Manager is absent due to holidays etc.
  • There is potential for expanding the role into a team lead of Environment analysts if value can be proven to such an expansion of staff.

Requirements

  • Experience of looking after environmental defects and resolution of them using ITIL best practise.
  • A strong and confident communicator, able to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Capable of elements of project management - creation and maintenance of plans, risks, issues etc.
  • Strong analytical & technical writing skills.
  • Confident when working within ambiguous environments and able to take the lead on what good environment management looks like.
  • Excellent ability to articulate technical problems to non-technical audience.
  • Autonomous and tolerant to a fast paced / fast changing environment.
  • Strong team player; ability to facilitate, negotiate and work within a multi-domain team environment.
  • Understanding the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and principles of DevOps.
  • Strong skills in the definition of supporting paperwork, processes and high level/low level design documents.
  • Demonstrable role as an IT Release & Environments Manager in a Cloud environment (ideally Azure).
  • Experience of government or regulatory processes, systems and information
  • Microsoft Azure specific experience
