Job description
As a Software Engineer on our Cloud team, youâll play a key role in building and scaling the technology powering our autonomous scientific discovery platform.
Our largest enterprise clients have compliance and security limitations which limit first-party data access to systems running within their own cloud infrastructure. These datasets are uniquely valuable assets; when combined with our scientific platform, Edisonâs enterprise partners are able to power novel drug or materials discovery campaigns at massive scale. The cloud teamâs mandate is to conquer the gnarly complexity that comes with these âbring your own cloudâ engagements such that our platform is deployable within client cloud infrastructure.
Our mission is to build an AI scientist, and youâll be part of the team which enables Edison to scale to the largest research organizations in the world. Youâll have significant ownership over the architecture and operations of our cloud deployment product, working alongside a small team of experienced engineers who care deeply about building world class software.
This role is on-site at our San Francisco office in the Dogpatch neighborhood. Our office is a converted warehouse with high ceilings, open space, and a team that genuinely believes in what theyâre building., * Design, build, and operate the systems that make our platform deployable within client cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP.
- Develop operators, infrastructure tooling, and automation that streamline our bring your own cloud (BYOC) deployment process.
- Support client deployments and onboarding hands-on, working directly with enterprise clientsâ engineering and security teams.
- Partner with our forward deployed engineering team to scope requirements and deliver on inflight engagements.
- Diagnose and solve bottlenecks in our BYOC process to streamline operations and expand our engagement capacity.
- Contribute to technical decision making and architecture for our BYOC product.
- Harden the security, reliability, and observability of deployments running in environments we donât fully control.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building and operating backend or infrastructure systems in production.
- Proficiency in Python for backend development and infrastructure tooling.
- Deep familiarity with cloud products (AWS/GCP), security, and deployment operations.
- Strong understanding of application network architecture including VPCs, DNS, secrets, proxies, etc.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane) and GitOps workflows.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with enterprise clients., * Experience with Kubernetes, multi-tenant architectures, or deploying software into customer-controlled environments.
- Experience with AI applications or scientific computing solutions.
- Prior experience in startups or small teams with significant architectural ownership and ambiguity.
- Experience scaling systems or platforms through periods of rapid growth.
