Job description

The Applications Technician will support thin film process development, equipment operation, and laboratory activities. This hands-on role will focus on operating deposition systems, conducting experiments, collecting process data, and maintaining laboratory equipment to support R&D, engineering, and customer projects.

Key Job Elements:

  • Operate and monitor PVD deposition systems, including magnetron sputtering equipment
  • Prepare substrates, fixtures, and deposition materials for experiments and demonstrations
  • Execute thin film deposition runs according to established procedures and engineering instructions
  • Collect, document, and organize process parameters and experimental results
  • Perform routine thin film characterization using laboratory metrology equipment such as profilometers, reflectometers, ellipsometers, and other measurement systems
  • Assist engineers in developing and optimizing thin film deposition processes
  • Support customer demonstrations, source inspections, and factory acceptance testing activities
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, deposition systems, targets, fixtures, and consumables
  • Troubleshoot routine equipment and process issues and escalate complex problems to engineering personnel
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate electronic records, test logs, and laboratory documentation
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Support special projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate degree or Technical Certificate in Materials Science, Engineering Technology, Physics, Electronics Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered
  • 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory, manufacturing, semiconductor, vacuum systems, or thin film deposition experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of vacuum technology and thin film deposition processes
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment and following experimental procedures
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to accurately record data and prepare test reports
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to safely work around vacuum and high-voltage equipment following proper procedures

Preferred

  • Experience with PVD sputtering systems.
  • Familiarity with thin film metrology tools such as: Profilometers
  • Ellipsometers
  • Reflectometers
  • Residual Gas Analyzers (RGA)
