Benefits & conditions
Salary: Assistant Professor $150,000-$200,000; Associate Professor $180,000-$245,000; Full Professor $200,000-$450,000. All 12 month equivalents., The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
About the company
The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering ( CaSE (https://engineering.jhu.edu/case/) ) in the Whiting School of Engineering ( WSE (https://engineering.jhu.edu/) ) at the Johns Hopkins University ( JHU (https://www.jhu.edu/) ) is undergoing significant growth and invites applications for faculty positions at all ranks in the area of data science and artificial intelligence (AI). We seek candidates who are advancing foundational AI methods, including machine learning and data science approaches, and who have demonstrated connections between their AI research and civil and systems engineering domains. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research has the potential to enable transformational impact on built and societal systems, including materials, manufacturing, construction, structures, communities and cities, public health, energy, and transportation. This may include data-driven discovery, design, modeling, simulation, decision-making, and/or policy development for sustainable, resilient, and autonomous systems and technologies in CaSE-relevant applications.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant department with faculty working across numerous scales from atomistic to global, and across disciplines in civil and systems engineering, that share a collective desire to bring engineering solutions to society’s greatest challenges. With a history of novel research in computational modeling, optimization, and uncertainty quantification in physics-based and data-based simulation, CaSE faculty enable engineers, decision-makers, and the public to find solutions to complex and challenging problems. CaSE has identified grand societal challenges (https://engineering.jhu.edu/case/research/grand-societal-challenges/) and has a strong desire to impact society in a positive manner through research and service.
This position is enabled by a landmark investment in data science and AI and creation of the Johns Hopkins Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI Institute). The WSE at JHU is adding approximately 150 new faculty members over the next few years, constructing a new half-million square foot building to house the DSAI Institute, and deploying unparalleled computational infrastructure to support cutting-edge research and collaboration in this domain. In addition to joining the dynamic faculty of DSAI and CaSE, candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with and leverage new university-wide initiatives in public policy (https://president.jhu.edu/messages/2023/10/06/announcing-new-school-of-government-and-policy/) and sustainable energy ( ROSEI (https://energyinstitute.jhu.edu/) ), as well as additional JHU Schools (https://www.jhu.edu/schools/) and CaSE affiliated centers and institutes (https://engineering.jhu.edu/case/research/affiliated-centers-and-institutes/) .
